Patricia E. “Pat” Hinson

Patricia E. “Pat” Hinson, 85, passed away on July 9, 2023, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas. She was born on November 7, 1937, in Glasco, Kansas, to Fenton and Ruth (Grant) Blake. On November 23, 1958, she married Gary Hinson in Delphos, Kansas. He survives.
A resident of Great Bend, coming from Concordia, Kansas, in 1974, Pat spent her working years as a hairdresser. She was the manager at the salon in JC Penneys, later starting her own salon, “Family Affair,” before continuing that work at Hair Central. Pat was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Great Bend, the dominos club at the Great Bend Senior Center, and served as a Senior Regent for the Women of the Moose in Concordia. She loved the Lord, celebrating birthdays and holidays – especially Christmas, enjoyed her flower garden and bird watching, decorating her porch for holidays, sending cards for all occasions, puzzles, crafting, but above all, spending time with her family, particularly with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren, being “Grandma” and “GeGe.”
Survivors include her husband of the home; son, Greg (Alina) Hinson of Great Bend, Kansas; daughter, Tammy Hinson of Great Bend, Kansas; daughter-in-law, Michelle Hinson of Great Bend, Kansas; five grandchildren, Samantha Hinson, Natalie (fiancé Taylen Jackson) McAnulla, Tyler (Jessi Ziepfel) Hinson, Janell (Matt) Simmons, Blake Hinson; three great-grandchildren, Kendall Simmons, Abby Hinson, Jude Riggs, with Baby Simmons on the way; a sister, Joyce Fell of Minneapolis, Kansas; half-brother, Eddie Blake of Lebanon, Missouri; half-sister, Sharon Lavey of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and two foster brothers, Dwight (Helen) Haley of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Paul (Barb) Haley of Delphos, Kansas. She is preceded in death by son, Tony Hinson; her parents; foster parents, Dale and Mable Haley; sister, Jan Scott; half-brother, Melvin Blake; and infant half-sister, Debbie Blake.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be from noon to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 12, 2023, with family receiving guests from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Bryant Funeral Home. Funeral service will take place at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 13, 2023, at First United Methodist Church with Pastor Tim Bever presiding. Inurnment will follow at Great Bend Cemetery. Memorials have been designated to the First United Methodist Church Women, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
