WENDELL MOYER

Wendell Moyer, age 88, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend went to be with our Lord on October 15, 2018. He was born to Harry and Minnie (Remus) Moyer on March 24, 1930 and raised on a farm near Ionia, Kansas.
 

Following high school in 1949, Wendell helped his father on the family farm. In 1954, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and was stationed in Fort Bliss, TX to finish his basic training. After basics, he was sent to Fort Knox, KY where he served with the advanced anti-aircraft control unit. At the end of his two years in the Army, Wendell returned to his family farm where he then married Karen Loomis in August 1957. Together, they had three children: Becky, Debra and Terry. Along with his farming, he started his business of Moyer’s Gun Smithing, where he enjoyed fixing and restoring guns.

 

Wendell was an active member of the Jewell American Legion and a member of the Ionia Church. He also served on the Athens Cemetery Board.

 

Wendell enjoyed spending time with family as well as fishing, hunting and going to all the grand and great-grandchildren’s events.

 

Wendell is preceded in death by his parents and loving wife, Karen, of 51 years.

 

Survivors include two daughters, Becky Cockroft (Daryl); Debra Bohnert (Darrell) of Jewell, KS ; and one son, Terry Moyer (Lois) of Salina, KS; sister Norma Lea Doud of Downs, KS; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives and friends.

 

Service will be at the Jewell Christian Church on Thursday, October 18th at 10:30 a.m. with Kleppinger Funeral Home handling the arrangements in Jewell, KS. Burial will be at the Athens Cemetery following the service with military honors by Jewell American Legion Post 72 and Ft. Riley Military Honors.
