A Closer Walk

"A Psalm of David. Ascribe to the LORD, O sons of the mighty, Ascribe to the LORD glory and strength. Ascribe to the LORD the glory due to His name; Worship the LORD in holy array. The voice of the LORD is upon the waters; The God of glory thunders, The LORD is over many waters. The voice of the LORD is powerful, The voice of the LORD is majestic....The LORD sat as King at the flood; Yes, the LORD sits as King forever. The LORD will give strength to His people; The LORD will bless His people with peace," Psalm 29:1-4 and 10-11 NASB. In the NASB between the chapter heading and the introduction, "A Psalm of David," is a sub-heading: "The Voice of the Lord in the Storm." Here we see that the voice of the Lord is over the waters, the God of Glory thunders, the Lord is over many waters. Further, the voice of the Lord is powerful, and the voice of the Lord is majestic. In verses 5-9 we see the words, "The voice of the Lord...." repeated again and again and then we are told what the voice of the Lord does, or causes to happen.

From this we could conclude that the Voice of the Lord causes things to happen. The voice of the Lord can also prevent things from happening. The voice of the Lord is powerful. And the voice of the Lord is majestic. It is helpful for us to remember that the voice of our God simply spoke things into being, and it was so. “And God said, 'Let there be light': and there was light.” “And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.” “And God said, 'Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear': and it was so.” “And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.” (Selected verses from Genesis chapter 1 KJV.) Well, you get the idea. God spoke and created the earth and all things in the earth. God's voice made all things come into being, and thus all things were created. The voice of the Lord is powerful. The voice of the Lord is majestic.
Our Lord speaks to us through His Word, the Holy Bible. A pastor once stated that the Bible is the only book we can read and have the author always present. God's Word is eternal. “The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever,” Isiah 40:8 KJV. God's Word will accomplish whatever the Lord sent it to accomplish, and it will never fail in its mission. “So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it,” Isiah 55:11 KJV. God's Word can guide us. “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path,” Psalm 119:105 KJV.
God's Word is Powerful. God's Word is Majestic. So how should we react to that? “Ascribe to the LORD, O sons of the mighty, Ascribe to the LORD glory and strength.
“All hail the power of Jesus' name! Let angels prostrate fall. Bring forth the royal diadem, and crown Him Lord of all. Bring forth the royal diadem and crown Him Lord of all!” Edward Perronet, 1721-1792.
