Letter to the Editor 7-15-22

Dear Editor:
Kansans value their rights and freedoms and our state has a history of being
a battleground state for crucial popular struggles.
On Tuesday, August 2nd, all registered voters in Kansas will have the right,
and freedom, to vote on a proposal to amend the Kansas Constitution. This
proposal, if passed, will let politicians in Topeka make decisions about
women’s reproductive healthcare. Currently, the Kansas Bill of Rights
guarantees a woman’s right to choose healthcare relating to pregnancy, a
highly personal decision. Regardless of how each of us feels about this
decision, we should all support the right to make our own choices related to
private healthcare – free from government interference.
The August 2nd primary ballot question is written in language meant to
confuse. Your vote will determine the future of a woman’s right to make
personal decisions regarding reproductive healthcare relating to pregnancy.
Voting YES approves the amendment and removes a woman’s right to make
reproductive healthcare decisions; the State politicians will then determine
a woman’s healthcare options, regardless of circumstances.
Voting NO on the question rejects the amendment, allowing women in Kansas the
right to retain control of their reproductive healthcare decisions.
All registered voters in the state are encouraged to vote against this
unnecessary amendment to the Kansas Constitution. Abortion care restrictions
are already highly regulated in our state. Join the solid majority of Kansans
who support the right of women to be responsible for their personal
healthcare. VOTE NO on August 2nd!
