Letter to the Editor 8-28-20

Letter to the Editor:
On Tuesday, August 25th, I was alerted that the Little Free Library that I
steward at Hood Park had one of the plexiglass windows broken out of it. It
is frustrating when things like this happen. We still are not sure who did
it, or why, but that is not the point of this letter. Things happen. Mistake
or not, we had to figure out a way to replace the plexiglass quickly, so the
books inside didn’t get damaged.
Within hours of my post on the Hood Park Little Free Library page and the
Voices of Cloud County group on Facebook asking for information about what
may have happened, several members of the community stepped in and offered to
help. I had three separate messages from people wanting to pay for the damage. I
had multiple people interested in donating money to get it fixed. Enter Larry
Jackson from Jackson’s Glass Shop, who offered to repair it for free. Early
Wednesday morning, I removed the damaged door and was on my way to my vehicle
to take it to Jackson’s, when Larry drove up to Hood Park. He had gone out
of his way to come by and planned to remove the door, replace the plexiglass,
and reinstall it. From what I understand, it was fixed within an hour.
Jackson’s Glass Shop officially has my business from this point forward.
During a time when it’s easy to focus on the abundance of negativity in the
world, I want to take this opportunity to focus on the positives that have
come from this situation. People came together quickly, to right a wrong.
People donated their time and services to help a cause that is near and dear
to me. Did they have to? Absolutely not. But I believe we could all use some
positive news right now, and THAT is the point of this letter. See the
good… be the good. Thanks to all of you who stepped forward to make sure
this Little Free Library- a labor of love dedicated in memory of my mother-
is well taken care of here in Concordia. I am proud to be a member of this
community!
