Rita M. (Dandurand) Sorell

Rita M. (Dandurand) Sorell, age 88, passed away on Sunday, October 4, 2020, at Marquis Place, Concordia, Kansas. She was born on June 18, 1932, in Aurora, Kansas, to Flavius H. and Leona M. (Letourneau) Dandurand.
She married Jerome E. Sorell on June 15, 1953, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Aurora, Kansas. He preceded her on Feb. 27, 2007.
She graduated from Aurora High School and received her RN degree from St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing.
Rita was a dedicated worker, serving 41 years as a RN at the St. Joseph Hospital in Concordia.
Rita was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church where she was a devout Catholic, opening up church every morning and Sundays and also where she served as a greeter. She was also a member of the VFW and American Legion Aux., Altar Society, St. Ann’s Society.
She enjoyed taking Legion trips and friendship mystery tours with Jerome. Rita loved watching her grandkids in sports, school programs, and all other activities involving the grandkids.
She is survived by her three daughters, Marilyn Thoman, Concordia, Kan.,  Judy Sorell of Manhattan, Kan., Janet Hall, Florissant Mo.; two sons, Randy Sorell (Lisa),  Gerald Sorell (Marcia), both of Concordia; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome Sorell; daughter, Mary Colleen Sorell; her parents, Flavius and Leona Dandurand; sisters, Zephyrine Dandurand and Dorothy Brownlee, and son-in-law, Gerald Thoman.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 8, 2020, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Concordia, with Fr. David Metz officiating. Burial will follow at St. Concordia Cemetery, Concordia.
Visitation will be Wed., Oct. 7, 2020, from 1-8 p.m., with a Parish Rosary at 6 p.m. and the family greeting friends following the Rosary, all at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia.
