CHS Student Of The Month - Cody Letourneau

Cody Letourneau, the son of Pat and Stacy Letourneau, has been named Concordia High School’s Student of the Month for April.

“I'm honored to have been chosen,” Letourneau said.

While at CHS, Letourneau has participated in the National Honor Society, Scholar’s Bowl, track and field, and Future Business Leaders of America. He plans to attend Kansas State University College of Engineering and major in computer science.

“I'm as ready as I can be after 12 years of school,” Letourneau said. “I'm ready to experience bigger things.”

In this modern-day tech world, computer science is a burgeoning field. “I like learning how to make computers do what you want them to do,” Letourneau said. “I like writing code and telling a computer what to do. I did some code writing with my robotics class last year, and we learned how to write Java Script from a code academy.”

There's been a lot of media talk lately about the growth of artificial intelligence (AI) and the unmonitored advancement of machine intelligence. Is Letourneau worried about computers taking over the world? “Not really,” he replied with a laugh. “You could write code to shut it down, and if that doesn't work, just throw a glass of water on the computer. That should fry it.”

In his spare time, Letourneau enjoys reading, playing video games with friends, bowling in Belleville, watching movies, and playing with his dogs. His favorite video game? “Minecraft. I like building stuff in it. But you have to be careful. They'll come at night and blow up things you built.”

Letourneau is ready for the move to Manhattan, and life in a bigger city. “Manhattan is a good place to start. Eventually I'd like to be working in a city the size of Kansas City. We went there once on a field trip, and I really like being in a city. But I know I'll miss not knowing a lot of people like you do in a small town.”

When Letourneau looks to the future he doesn't see himself that far away from his hometown. “Hopefully I'm still in Kansas or close by, like Kansas City, working for a tech company.”

Letourneau wanted to thank many people for all the support he has received over the years. “I want to thank my mom and dad, and my grandparents. They've all helped me a lot. And all my teachers who taught me a lot of values. Especially my elementary school teacher who encouraged me to keep reading. I love to read, and she encouraged me to keep reading even as I got older.”

Congratulations to Cody Letourneau, the CHS Student of the Month for April.
