October 25, 1971

Mrs. Dorothy Thurston, librarian at the Concordia Free Public Library, announced that the Thursday Make-Believe program for four-and-five-year-old children had been such a success that it would be continued for several more weeks... Mr. and Mrs. Karl Sallman were parents of a 10-pound son named Chad Steven... former Concordia High School quarterback and all-state basketball player Ron Green turned football prognosticator and won the Blade-Empire football pick-'em contest... trophy girls for the final race of the season for Midway Raceway were Denise Barba and Becky Schleuder.

Wayne Switzer was elected 1997 president of the Cloud County Historical Society... Marvin and Eudora Petersen gave a program on the history of surnames when Cloud County Genealogical Society met... Jared Goedert (boys' 10-11 division) and Matt Bartz (boys' 12-13 division) recorded first-place finishes in the Region C Punt, Pass & Kick competition at Harold M. Clark Stadium... Marie Brewer wore a Baby Bop costume in the Moonlight Madness parade in downtown Concordia.

The Moose Lodge hosted a Halloween party for children… a Red Out, where fans were encouraged to wear red to support the Panthers, was planned for the upcoming football game... Concordia High School state cross country qualifiers were Tori Reed, Kirstyn Dvorak, Courtney Monzon, Garet Koester, Ashlynn Lambert, Katie Thompson, Paige Reed and Katie Lambert... Anna and Allen Jackson announced the birth of their son, Bartelbe Lethario Charles Jackson... wheat was selling at $6.96, corn was $6.27, and milo was $6.27 per bushel on local markets.

A dance at the American Legion celebrated both Leon and Loleta Deaver's 40th wedding anniversary and Keith Day's one year cancer-free celebration... The King Midas Band performed at the Brown Grand Theatre... the corn pile proved to be the most popular play area for the littlest children attending the Pumpkin Patch at the Nazareth Motherhouse... wheat was selling at $2.97, corn was $2.93, and milo was $2.53 per bushel on local markets.

Kim Gerard, 1978 graduate of Concordia High School and CEO and founder of 360 Electrical, spoke to Concordia High School students as part of the Pause Paws program... Concordia Lutheran Church donated $500 to the Chamber of Commerce to assist the Chamber with the costs to move to a new office space... CHS senior Abby Donovan placed second in the Class 4A state golf tournament played at Emporia Municipal Golf Course... wheat was selling at $5.41, corn was $3.77, and milo was $5.04 per bushel on local markets.
