During Smile Week, five-year-old Sandra Cibolksi was chosen to win a dollar for being the shopper with the “smallest smile”... Mr. and Mrs. Floyd J. Day announced the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Nancy Ann, to David Ensign, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert S. Ensign... Boy Scout Troop 31 held a Halloween Court of Honor where Tom Pearson and Steve Tyler received their first-class ranks and Ronnie Branson, Kent Doyen and John Lagemann advanced to Star Scouts... a package of Reveal was 44 cents at Boogaart's.

First presented to the world more than a year ago in Washington, D.C., the Kids Earth Flag, made from fabric sent by children from all over the world, had been on display at the Concordia Wal-Mart store for a week... winners of the merchants' Moonlight Madness costume competition were Kevin Jones, Cafe Gaston, third place; Annie Bergmann, Annie's Fashions, second place; and Verletta Moon, Image Apparel, first place... the St. Lawrence String Quartet, which has garnered rave reviews in the United States, Canada, South America and Europe, performed at the Brown Grand Theatre.

Resident assistants at Cloud County Community College sponsored a food drive and collected 2,323 items... Grace Christians celebrated her 85 birthday... winners in the Mismatch category of Red Ribbon week at Concordia Middle School were Sreya Kemling, Mykah Eshbaugh, Cydney Bergmann and Laken Schroeder... wheat was selling at $7.05, corn was $6.44, and milo was $6.44 per bushel on local markets.

Four generations of Orphan Train rider Teresa Martin's family gathered for the unveiling of a statue in her honor, north of the Frank Carlson Library, a perfect spot for the longtime librarian who was the first children's librarian at the Hays Public Library... Cameron Collins was selected as Concordia High School Student of the Month for November... wheat was selling at $3.04, corn was $2.90, and milo was $2.50 per bushel on local markets.

Thanks to the website F3, now available at the Frank Carlson Library, patrons are able to access military history of a family member, ancestor, or distant relative, with data covering both World Wars, the Civil War, and all the way back to the Revolutionary War... the Concordia eighth grade girls' basketball team opened its season with a 41-7 victory over Fort Riley... wheat was selling at $5.27, corn was $3.71, and milo was $5.16 per bushel on local markets.
