Abilene defeats CHS in sub-state

CLEARWATER — In the fifth meeting of the season, the Abilene Cowgirls defeated the Concordia Panthers in three sets in the opening round of the Class 4A sub-state volleyball tournament on Saturday.
Concordia and Abilene had split the four meetings during the regular season.
The Panthers won the first set against the Cowgirls in the sub-state tournament, 25-17.
Abilene squeezed out a 26-24 victory in the second set to even the match at 1-1.
The Cowgirls then downed the Panthers 25-21 in the third and deciding set.
Senior Carlie Carlgren had eight kills, 17 digs and two blocks for Concordia.
Sophomore Kynlee Hamel also had eight kills. She also had six service point and three digs.
Taylor McDaniel, a junior, finished with seven kills, nine digs and 17 service points.
Sophomore Baylen Arnold had 19 digs and five service points.
Hattie Blackwood, a senior, had 18 assists, eight digs and four service points.
Sophomore Rylie Jessup had 10 assists and three digs.
Junior Kenlee Williams had three kills.
Concordia finished the season 21-17.
Abilene (21-16) lost to top-seeded Clearwater 25-15, 25-12.
Clearwater (33-3) advances to the Class 4A state tournament to be played Friday and Saturday in Hutchinson.
In the sub-state play-in match, Augusta downed Hugoton, 25-16, 25-12.
Clearwater then knocked off Augusta, 25-13, 25-14.
