Ameer sets record, T-Birds go 2-2 in duals

SALINA — Winning all four of his matches, Cloud County Community College sophomore Ibrahim Ameer set a new school record for victories in a season while competing in the Kansas Jayhawk Community Conference duals on Sunday.
Ameer, who is ranked second in the nation in the 197-pound class, won three of his four matches by pin and now has 33 victories this season. He broke the school record of 30 wins that was held by current assistant coach Blayne Harris.
Cloud County won two of the duals and lost two and finished up 11-6.
With a 5-3 record, the Thunderbirds finished a program-best second in the Jayhawk Conference standings behind fourth-ranked Pratt Community College.
Ameer pinned Kaden Glass in 2:02 to record Cloud County's lone win in a 44-6 loss to Pratt in its opening dual.
Pratt won five of the matches by fall.
Cloud County, ranked 17th in the country, narrowly defeated Cowley College, 26-21.
Brady Foster won an 11-0 major decision over Cowley's Ayden Montez in the 125-pound class.
Bray Skinner, 133 pounds, lost 6-0 to Aidan O'Dell.
Collin Smith was pinned by Trenton Grant in the 141-pound class.
Cloud County then recorded wins in the next three matches.
Salvador Barintas, 149 pounds, pinned Chase Koehler.
Dylan Ancheta, 157 pounds, won by forfeit.
Gabriel Bailey, 165 pounds, won a 14-0 major decision over Landry Beeching.
Erik Darling was pinned by Cowley's Melton Powe in the 174-pound class.
Tommy Rogers defeated Lewis Caples 15-10 in the 184-pound class.
Ameer secured the dual win for the T-Birds by winning a 9-4 decision over Kamden Young.
Cloud County lost 31-17 to Labette Community College.
Foster won by technical fall, 15-0,  over ninth-ranked Dalton Kivett.
Labette then won the next six matches to go up 25-5.
Rogers pinned Jonathan Edwards in 45 seconds.
Ameer pinned Aaron Clevenger in 1:34.
Cloud County gave up a forfeit at 285 pounds.
The T-Birds finished up the event by defeating Neosho County Community College.
Each team scored 27 points and Cloud County was awarded the dual win based on criteria.
Foster lost a 4-0 decision to Roberto Comacho.
Skinner pinned Jesse Hall in 2:29.
Smith was pinned by Ryland Wright.
Barintas lost by fall to Jace Tapia.
Ancheta pinned Maze Mickens in 2:12.
Bailey pulled out a 3-2 victory over Jacob Knowles.
Darling lost by fall to Trent Jones.
Wyatt Powell needed just 48 seconds to pin Kale Lane in the 184-pound class.
Ameer finished up unbeaten on the day by pinning Buddy Claibourn in 1:07.
Cloud County was open at 285 pounds and the dual was tied at 27-27.
The T-Birds won four matches by pin, to three for Neosho, and captured the dual win.
