American Legion loses in opening round of district

Scoring six runs over the final two innings, the Beloit Royals downed the Concordia American Legion 13-8 in the opening round of the Pee Wee Baseball District 1 Tournament Monday night at the Concordia Sports Complex.
The Royals advance to the tournament semifinals, and will play the Beloit Hornets at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
In the other semifinal game, Concordia Chevrolet/Buick plays Pike Valley at 8 p.m. Thursday.
The third-place and championship games will be played Friday night.
Beloit got out to a 5-0 lead on the American Legion in the top of the first inning.
The American Legion answered with five runs in the bottom of the first.
Two runs in the top of the third inning gave the Royals the lead back at 7-5.
The American Legion put up two runs in the bottom of the third to pull even at 7-7.
The Royals went on top to stay, 10-7, with three runs in the top of the fourth inning.
Scoring one run in the bottom of the fourth, the American Legion trailed 10-8.
Beloit added three runs in the top of the fifth.
Ayden Krier and Tre Hamiel had two hits and scored two runs each for the American Legion.
Brandon Vignery scored two runs.
