American Legion tops Chevrolet/Buick

BELOIT — In a matchup of Concordia teams, the American Legion knocked off Concordia Chevrolet/Buick 10-1 in the semifinals of the Kansas Pee Wee Baseball Association District 1 Tournament Thursday night.
The American Legion (7-0) moves into the championship game, and will play the Beloit Rampage in the championship game tonight.
Beloit downed Pike Valley 5-2 in the other semifinal game.
Concordia Chevrolet/Buick and Pike Valley will meet in the third-place game tonight.
Daniel Kemling singled and scored to give Chevrolet/Buick a 1-0 lead on the American Legion in the top of the first inning.
Brody Knox doubled in the inning.
Chevrolet/Buick would not have another hit or baserunner over the final four and two-thirds innings.
Ayden Krier and Brandon Vignery combined to strike out 10 of the final 14 Chevrolet/Buick batters they faced.
The American Legion went on top to stay with two runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Vignery walked and scored and Brayton Hake tripled and scored.
Sending 13 batters to the plate, the American Legion erupted for eight runs in the bottom of the third inning.
Kasey Pearson doubled, was hit by a pitch and scored two runs in the inning.
Vignery, Krier, Hake and Layne Herrman each singled and scored in the inning.
Trigg Fraser and Liam Lervold walked and scored.
Vignery and Hake had two hits and scored two runs each for the American Legion.
Krier and Herrman had two hits each.
In the District 3 tournament being played in Waterville, the Concordia Lions were beaten 8-2 by Clifton in the semifinals Thursday night.
Valley Heights rolled past Clyde 16-1 in the other semifinal.
The Concordia Lions play Clyde in the third-place game tonight.
Valley Heights faces Clifton in the title game.
