Bartlett, Leiszler place at state tourney

MCPHERSON — A pair of Concordia High School wrestlers placed in the top three in their respective weight classes at the third annual Kansas High School Girls Wrestling Championships on Saturday.
Senior Kenzie Bartlett went 4-1 on her way to placing second in the the 195-pound class for Concordia.
Kassidy Leiszler, a junior, finished third in the 106-pound class.
There were more than 200 girls from about 80 schools competing in the unofficial girls' championships.
Bartlett pinned Sophia Glanville, Chase, in third period in the opening round of the tournament.
MaKaea Forbes, Atchison County, pinned Bartlett.
Bartlett pinned Bethany Ballinger, Andover and Reid Whisehant, Wichita East.
In her final match of the day, Bartlett pinned Casey Williams, Sabetha, in 1:16.
Leiszler, who placed first in the 106-pound class last year, pinned Justina Nicholson, Topeka High, Eleanor Breen, Wichita Southeast, and Arcelly Villegas, Hutchinson.
Amanda Newcomb, Osawatomie, won a narrow 6-5 decision over Leiszler.
Leiszler lost a 12-2 major decision to Nichole Moore, Nickerson, in the final match.
McPherson High School won a third consecutive team title with 113 points. Fort Scott was a close second with 110 points.
