Blue Devils down Thunderbirds, 5-1

MANHATTAN — Limited to a single run on just three hits, the Cloud County Community College baseball team tumbled 5-1 to Kansas City Kansas Community College in the opening game of the NJCAA Plains District Tournament played Tuesday at Tointon Family Stadium on the campus of Kansas State University.
Cloud County, with the loss, faces an elimination game against Barton Community College today.
Barton suffered a 9-8 setback to Hutchinson Community College.
Kansas City Kansas (48-10) advances to play a winner's bracket game today against Hutchinson.
Cole Dawson scored on a sacrifice fly by Brendyn Bard in the bottom of the first inning to go on top to stay against Cloud County (41-17).
The Blue Devils made it 2-0 when Pablo Sanchez stole home in the bottom of the second inning.
Palmer Hutchinson hit a solo home run in the third inning to up the Blue Devils' lead to 3-0.
A sacrifice fly by Dawson got Payton McHarg home in the third inning, and Kansas City Kansas led 4-0.
Cloud County scored its only run off of Camden Karlin (6-0) in the top of the seventh inning.
With one out, Ian Riley singled.
Brock Wollin was hit by a pitch, with two out, and Riley advanced to second.
Kolden Howerton singled to drive in Riley.
Kansas City Kansas responded in the bottom of the seventh inning with a run-producing single by Darius Freeman, that made it 5-1.
Karlin shut out Cloud County over the final two innings. He allowed one run on three hits, struck out eight and didn't walk any.
Conner Woods took the loss for the T-Birds. He gave up three runs on five hits, struck out two and walked one in three innings.
Jack Mount gave up two runs on one hit, struck out three and walked four in four innings of work.
Brady Stuewe worked a scoreless eighth inning. He walked one.
