Bridwell places 16th in state meet
WAMEGO — Turning in her best time of the season, Concordia High School freshman Hannah Bridwell earned a medal in the Class 4A state cross country championships, run on a cold Saturday morning at Wamego Country Club.
Bridwell finished the race in 20:27.10 to place 16th out of 100 runners in the meet.
"I was very pleased with Hannah's performance. Her goal was to place in the top 20 and she placed 16th and ran her best time of the season," Concordia coach Rick Haden said. "She exceeded her goal and ran her best race at the most important meet of the season, the state meet. I couldn't be happier for her."
Sydney Owens, Eudora, was the individual champion with a time of 18:47.90.
Hannah Keltner, Eudora, finished second in 18:59.60 and Lauren Smith, Clay Center, was third in 19:02.60.
Eudora captured the team title with 57 points. Baldwin was second with 71 and Clay Center was third with 81.
Bridwell won two meets and placed no lower than seventh place during the regular season and earned a trip to state by finishing third in the regional meet hosted by Buhler.
"Hannah had an amazing cross country season," Haden said. "In order to be good in this sport you have to be dedicated and committed, and that's what Hannah is. Hannah is passionate about this sport and dedicated to her craft. Her results show that consistency and hard work pay off."
