Bulldogs upset Panthers in first round of regional

Limited to just one run on two hits, the third-seeded Concordia High School softball team was upset 3-1 by sixth-seeded Marysville in the opening round of the Class 3A regional tournament Tuesday at the Concordia Sports Complex.
Marysville's Lindsey Dressman pitched a complete game in picking up the win over Concordia. She gave up just two singles to Erinae Flesher, struck out 10 and walked three.
Concordia, which had finished off the regular season by sweeping Marysville in a North Central Kansas League doubleheader, finishes up 8-13.
Marysville (5-14) advanced to the tournament semifinals, and was scheduled to play second-seeded Minneapolis today.
Minneapolis (15-6) knocked off seventh-seeded Russell/Victoria 12-2 in the opening round.
Top-seeded Beloit (15-3) received a bye in the first round.
Fourth-seeded Riley County downed fifth-seeded Plainville/Stockton, 12-2.
Riley County (8-11) was to play Beloit in the other semifinal.
The championship game was set for tonight with the winner advancing to the state tournament in Manhattan.
Marysville grabbed a 1-0 lead on Concordia in the top of the first inning.
Lauryn Roberts led off the game with a double. She scored on an error.
Hanna Acree reached base on an error with one out in the bottom of the first inning for Concordia, but was left stranded.
With the Panthers still trailing 1-0, Flesher singled with two out in the third inning.
Dressman got a pop fly to end the inning.
The Bulldogs added two runs in the top of the fourth inning to go up 3-1.
Dressman singled with two out in the inning and Erikka Crome tripled to drive in a run.
Trinity Hager followed with a run-producing single.
Concordia was unable to take advantage of two walks in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Brecklynn Bonner was hit by a pitch to lead off the bottom of the fifth inning.
Bonner moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Hattie Blackwood and stole third.
A two-out single by Flesher got Bonner home with the Panthers' first run.
Flesher went to third on a wild pitch and stole third. Dressman recorded a strikeout.
Dressman retired Concordia in order in the sixth inning.
Bonner walked with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Dressman then got back-to-back strikeouts to end the game.
Acree pitched all seven innings in suffering the loss for the Panthers. She gave up three runs, two earned, on eight hits, struck out five and didn't walk any.
Roberts had three hits for Marysville.
Dressman and Hager had two hits each.
