CCCC’s Lawrence breaks own record

HIGHLAND — Cloud County Community College sophomore Courtney Lawrence broke his own school record in the shot put as the Thunderbirds opened their indoor track and field season with a first-place finish in the Highland Challenge.
Lawrence recorded a winning throw of 60-7 ¾ to better his own school record, set last season, by more than a foot.
Cloud County scored 161 points to win the four-team meet. Garden City Community College finished second.
The Cloud County women racked up 210 points in placing first as a team.
Marcquiece Cade and Shadrick Tansi won two events each for the Cloud County men.
Cade was first in the heptathlon with 4,553 points and in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.55.
Andrew Betton finished second in the heptathlon. Zachery Jones was fifth and Renaldo Savoury was sixth.
Tansi won the 55-meter dash in 6.57 and the 200-meter dash in 23.14. He also teamed with Jaysaun Smith, Timothy Nyinguan and Narindra Rafidimalala to win the 4x400 relay in 3:32.27.
Smith went 22-11 ¾ to place first in the long jump for the T-Birds.
Daniel Cope won the weight throw for Cloud County with a toss of 51-7.
Awet Beraki finished first in the 3,000-meter run in 8:37.02.
The Cloud County women had sophomore Marie Forbes win the shot put with a toss of 46-8 ¼ and the weight throw with a best of 53-5.
Patricia Koma placed first in the 800-meter run in 2:29.30 and the 3,000-meter run in 11:07.83.
Georgia Bell cleared 10-1 ½ to capture first place in the pole vault for the T-Birds.
Mercy Ntia-Obong won the 55-meter dash in 6.99 and Asila Apkup was second in 7.22.
Apkup also won the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.13.
Pamela Milano placed first in the 600-meter run in 1:35.77. Leonie Beau was second in 1:37.74.
Ludjenie Mondesir ran 3:19.28 to win the 1,000-meter run.
Cloud County's 4x400 relay team of Apkup, Milano, Beau and Ntia-Obong placed first in 3:59.75.
