CCCC Baseball Team Sweeps Garden City

Three pitchers combined to give up just one run on three hits over two games as the Cloud County Community College baseball team swept a Jayhawk Conference West Division doubleheader from Garden City Community College Thursday at the Concordia Sports Complex.
Mason McConnaughey tossed a two-hit shutout and Cloud County belted six home runs in defeating Garden City 11-0 in five innings in the first game of the twinbill.
The Thunderbirds, now 24-15 overall and 11-7 in conference play, won the second game 15-1 with Phil Brennaman and Mason Munz teaming up on a one-hitter.
McConnaughey struck out seven and didn’t walk any in blanking the Broncbusters in game one.
Cloud County hit three home runs in a five-run second inning.
Alexander Diaz blasted a two-run home run in the inning. Brock Wollin and Danny Infante had solo shots.
A two-run home run by Paul Schuyler in the third inning gave the T-Birds a 7-0 lead.
Hitting two more home runs in the fourth inning, Cloud County pushed the lead to 11-0.
Infante led off the inning with a homer.
Karson Green homered with Wollin and Kolden Howerton aboard.
The game ended after five innings because of the 10-run rule.
Schuyler was 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs batted in and two runs scored.
Infante had two hits in two at bats, drove in two runs and scored two.
Anthony Taggart had two hits.
Green drove in three runs and Wollin scored three.
Garden City, 7-35 overall and 3-19 in the conference, scored its only run of the doubleheader in the top of the first inning.
Cloud County tied the game with a run in the bottom of the inning.
Three runs in the third inning put the T-Birds on top to stay, 4-1.
Cloud County added three runs in the fourth inning and led 7-1.
Diaz hit a solo home run.
The T-Birds tacked on five runs in the fifth inning to push the lead to 12-1.
Landon Meyer singled home two runs in the inning.
Cloud County made it a 15-1 game with three runs in the sixth inning.
Brennaman (4-0) pitched the first six innings to get the win. He gave up one run on one hit, struck out nine and didn’t walk any.
Munz finished up. He struck out one and walked one.
Meyer had two hits and drove in four runs.
Schuyler was 3-for-4 with four runs scored.
Demitri Shakotko had two hits, knocked in two runs and scored three.
Taggart was 3-for-3 with two runs scored.
Infante drove in two runs.
