CCCC men, women place second

COFFEYVILLE — In two tight races, the Cloud County Community College men's and women's track and field teams placed second in the Region VI Outdoor Championships that finished up on Sunday at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
Cloud County scored 142 points in the men's division, and finished just one point behind Barton Community College, which won the title with 143 points. Coffeyville Community College was third with 119 points.
Barton County also won the women's title with 183.5 points. Cloud County was a close second with 182 and Fort Scott Community College was third with 96.
The Cloud County men posted two event wins in the meet with Kidus Misgina winning the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:34.57. He also placed third in the 10,000-meter run (30:25.49).
Anson Moses scored 6,277 points to capture first place in the decathlon for Cloud County. Hemon Joseph was fourth (5,243) and Brandon Hutchinson was sixth (5,046).
Hassan Abidi placed second in the 800-meter run for the Thunderbirds (1:52.13) and Raziel Patton was fourth (1:53.20).
Ben Okraksa finished second in the pole vault (14-8) and Skylar McFarling was eighth (13-2 ¼).
Hemon Joseph was second in the javelin (187-11). Davis Mick finished sixth (156-9) and Hutchinson was eighth (150-5).
Siyabonga Mokgothu placed second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:46.02). He also placed fourth in the 1,500-meter run (4:00.38).
Abidi, Emmanuel Wanga, Daniel Siaffa and Leroy Kamau finished second in the 4x400 relay (3:10.95).
The T-Birds had Abidi, Mokgothu, Patton and Quwayne Reid place second in the 4x800 relay.
Oageng Mdlela finished third in the triple jump (50-10 ¾) and Awakhine Ndlovu was fourth (50-2).
Siaffa finished fourth in the 400-meter hurdles (52.46).
Vincent Ugwoke placed fourth in the discus (188-10), fifth in the hammer throw (163-6) and sixth in the shot put (49-1/4).
Arne Roehl finished fourth in the high jump (6-5 ½).
Wanga finished fifth in the 400-meter dash (48.53). He teamed with Leroy Kamau, Emmanuel Anis and Shadrick Tansi to place fifth in the 4x100 relay (41.09).
Kamau was sixth in the 200-meter dash (20.82).
The Cloud County women registered 12 first-place finishes in the meet, two each by Lucy Ndungu, Miracle Thompson and Vanessa Mercera.
Ndungu won the 5,000-meter run in 19:19.27 and the 10,000-meter run in 38:17.21. She was also second in the 1,500 (5:07.75).
Thompson ran 13.25 to place first in the 100-meter hurdles. She won the 400-meter hurdles in 1:04.00.
Vanessa Mercera was fifth in the 100 hurdles (14.51) and Jasmine Sakaguchi was sixth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:10.05).
Mercera went 5-7 ¾ to win the high jump and was first in the heptathlon with 4,617 points.
Shackala Henry was third in the high jump (5-5 ¾). Mariem Soltani was seventh in the heptathlon (2,900).
Vimbayi Maisvorewa placed first in the 400-meter dash in 53.59. She was fifth in the 200-meter dash (23.77).
Melody Ochana ran 11:36.60 to capture first in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Sakaguchi cleared 11-2 ½ to win the pole vault. Mia Manley made the same height to finish second.
Tamara Thompson won the discus with a throw of 166-10. She was fifth in the shot put (39-10 ½) and seventh in the hammer throw (141-6)
Tahisha Thompson placed fifth in the discus (136-8) and Mallory Callihan was seventh in the shot put (37-8 ½).
Mercera, Maisvorewa, Passion Crews and Lela Singleton teamed up to win the 4x400 relay in 3:49.78.
Crews, Ochana, Mary Kua and Aina Goir won the 4x800 relay in 9:30.59.
Jessi Brummett placed third in the javelin (128-1) and Emily Punches was seventh (108-3).
Crews finished fourth in the 800-meter run (2:21.95).
The NJCAA Outdoor Championships are scheduled for May 18-20 in Hobbs, N.M.
