CCCC opens conference play with split

EMPORIA — Opening Jayhawk Conference play at a neutral site, the 18th-ranked Cloud County Community College baseball team split a doubleheader with Colby Community College on Sunday.
Colby shut out Cloud County 14-0 in the opening game of the twinbill.
The Thunderbirds (16-3) had three players drive in three runs each in a 13-3 victory in game two.
The games were played at Trusler Sports Complex on the Emporia State University campus because of wet field conditions in Concordia and Colby following a snow storm last week.
Game one was scoreless through three innings.
Colby erupted for seven runs in the top of the fourth inning.
One run in the fifth inning gave the Trojans an 8-0 advantage.
Colby tacked on six runs in the top of the sixth inning to stretch the lead to 14-0.
The game ended after six innings because of the 10-run rule.
Aaron Hayes suffered the loss for the T-Birds. He gave up four runs on two hits, struck out nine and walked three in two innings.
Conner Woods allowed three runs, two earned, on three hits in two-thirds of an inning.
Brady Kobitowich worked one and two-thirds innings and surrendered seven runs, one earned, on four hits, struck out three and walked one.
John Green retired the one batter he faced.
Cloud County was limited to just three hits.
The T-Birds got out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning in game two.
Williams Camacho-Soto singled with the bases loaded to drive in two runs.
Colby made it a 2-1 game with a run in the top of the second inning.
The Trojans then tied the game at 2-2 with a solo home run in the top of the fourth inning.
Cloud County answered with six runs in the bottom of the fourth, and led 8-2.
Ian Riley hit a two-run home run in the inning.
Alexander Diaz singled a run home and Ty Wevers had a run-producing double.
A run in the top of the seventh inning left Colby trailing 8-3.
Scoring five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, the T-Birds ended the game.
Diaz and Kolden Howerton each hit two-run home runs in the inning.
Tom Poole knocked in a run with a single.
Christian Womble gave up two runs on seven hits, struck out eight and walked one in five innings to get the win.
Mason Munz allowed one run on three hits in three innings. He walked one.
Diaz had two hits in three at bats, drove in three runs and scored two.
Howerton and Camacho-Soto drove in three runs each.
Riley knocked in two runs and scored two.
The T-Birds and Trojans were scheduled to finish up the four-game series today.
