CCCC Softball

PARSONS — A furious comeback bid in game one came up short as the Cloud County Community College softball team dropped both ends of a Jayhawk Conference Division II doubleheader to Labette Community College on Saturday.
Cloud County trailed Labette 9-3 heading into the final inning in game one.
The Thunderbirds scored six runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 9-9.
Labette then scored a run in the bottom of the inning to pull out a 10-9 victory.
The Cardinals then downed Cloud County 12-4 in the second game to complete the sweep.
Labette put up three runs in the second inning in game one.
Cloud County closed the gap to 3-2 with a pair of runs in the top of the third inning.
One run in the bottom of the third and three in the fourth extended Labette's lead to 7-2.
McKenna Mayhew hit a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning, and Cloud County trailed 7-3.
A two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth gave the Cardinals a 9-3 cushion.
Mayhew, Hannah Hotalen, Zoie Kincade, Brooklyn McCormick and Alexis Billings had run-producing singles as Cloud County rallied with six runs in the top of the seventh inning to pull even at 9-9.
Three singles resulted in Labette scoring the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.
Taylor Dekok pitched the first inning and two-thirds for Cloud County and gave up three unearned runs on one hit. She struck out two and walked three.
Kiera Brack surrendered seven runs on 14 hits, struck out five and walked two in four and two-thirds innings in taking the loss.
Cloud County banged out 16 hits in the game.
Jayden Rehlander had four hits.
Mayhew was 3-for-4 with two runs batted in and two runs scored.
Billings had three hits and Kincade had two hits.
Cloud County, now 13-21 overall and 3-7 in conference play, took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning in game two.
Labette erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the first.
Each team scored a run in the second inning, and the T-Birds trailed 8-2.
Hotalen singled home two runs in the top of the third inning to pull Cloud County within four runs, 8-4.
The Cardinals added one run in the fourth inning, two in the fifth and one in the sixth.
Rehlander allowed 11 runs, eight earned, on 12 hits, struck out four and walked four in five innings.
Taryn McKinney pitched in relief.
Hotalen had two hits and drove in two runs.
