CCCC splits pair with Northeast

The Cloud County Community College softball team wrapped up an eight-game homestand by splitting a doubleheader with Northeast (Neb.) Community College, Sunday at the CCCC Softball Field.
Cloud County dropped the first game 9-5 and then scored eight runs in the fifth and sixth innings combined to capture an 11-10 victory in the second game.
Game one was tied at 1-1 after one inning of play.
Northeast scored three runs in the top of the second inning and five in the third to open up a 9-1 advantage.
Emily Kvasnicka doubled home Ryleigh Jones in the bottom of the third inning for Cloud County.
The T-Birds added two runs in the fifth inning and one in the sixth to make it 9-5.
Jayden Rehlander took the loss. She gave up eight runs, six earned, on four hits and walked five in two and a third innings.
Kiera Brack and Lynsey Stewart pitched in relief.
Cloud County banged out 15 hits in the game, but left nine baserunners stranded.
Jones was 3-for-4 at the plate with three runs scored. She also stole five bases.
Kaitlynn Baca had two hits and drove in two runs.
Kvasnicka, Brooklynn McCormick and Zoie Kincade had two hits each.
Northeast broke a scoreless tie with six runs in the top of the third inning in game two.
Cloud County cut the deficit in half with three runs in the bottom of the third.
Single runs in the fourth and fifth innings gave the Hawks an 8-3 advantage.
The T-Birds tied the game at 8-8 with five runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Rehlander had a two-run single in the inning.
Northeast reclaimed the lead at 9-8 with a run in the top of the sixth inning.
Cloud County answered with three runs in the bottom of the sixth, and led 11-9.
The Hawks made it 11-10 with a run in the top of the seventh.
Taryn McKinney, the second of two pitchers, got the win for the T-Birds. She allowed three runs, one earned, on seven hits, struck out three and walked one.
Stewart gave up one unearned run, on two hits, in one inning to get the save.
McKenna Mayhew drove in three runs for the T-Birds.
Rehlander had two hits and knocked in two runs.
Kincade and Hannah Hotalen drove in two runs each.
Kvasnicka had two hits and Jones scored three runs.
