CCCC women place second at nationals

HOBB, N.M. — Posting five event wins, the Cloud County Community College women's track and field team placed second in the NJCAA Outdoor Championships that finished up on Saturday.
Cloud County scored 101 points in the meet.
Host New Mexico Junior College won the women's team title with 130.5 points. Barton Community College was third with 92.5.
The Cloud County men scored 48 points and placed fifth in the meet.
New Mexico Junior College and South Plains (Texas) College each scored 100 points and shared the men's team title. Barton was third with 79.5 points.
Lucy Ndungu won two events for the Cloud County women. She was first in the 5,000-meter run in 17:59.69 and in the 10,000-meter run in 38:12.10.
Vanessa Mercera scored 5,260 points to place first in the heptathlon for the Thunderbirds. She cleared a school record 5-9 ¼ to finish second in the high jump and was named the Women's Field Athlete of the Year.
Miracle Thompson turned in a time of 13.31 to capture first place in the 100-meter hurdles.
The T-Birds had Jasmine Sakaguchi clear 12-1/2 to win the pole vault. Teammate Mia Manley went 11-8 ½ and finished second.
Jessi Brummett placed second for Cloud County in the javelin with a throw of 148-11.
Mercera, Thompson, Vimbayi Maisvorewa and Passion Crews teamed up to place second in the 4x400 relay with a school record time of 3:40.20.
Maisvorewa was third in the 400-meter dash in 52.46.
Melody Ochana ran 11:35.00 to finish third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Tamara Thompson threw 152-5 and placed third in the discus.
Cloud County's 4x800 relay team of Crews, Ochana, Mary Kua and Aina Goir finished fourth in 9:47.27.
The Cloud County men had Anson Moses place second in the decathlon with 6,666 points. Hemon Joseph was fourth with 6,278 points.
Kidus Misgina ran 14:40.56 to finish third in the 5,000-meter run for the T-Birds. He was fourth in the 10,000 in 31:04.28.
Ben Okraska placed third in the pole vault by clearing 15-9 ¾.
Joseph threw 177-10 to finish fourth in the javelin.
Vincent Ugwoke was fourth in the discus with a throw of 194-9.
Oageng Mdlela went 50-6 1/4 and placed fourth in the triple jump.
Cloud County's 4x800 relay team of Raziel Patton, Siyabonga Mokgothu, Hassan Abidi and Quwayne Reid finished fourth in 7:43.78.
