CCCC women set pair of school records

LAWRENCE — The Cloud County Community College women’s track and field team established a pair of new school records while competing in the 101st KU Relays that finished up last Saturday at Rock Chalk Park.

Cloud County’s 4x800 relay team of Nontokozo Ncube, Mercy Angaamchaab, N Vanee Anchike and Jaelyn Rumback broke its own school record by seven seconds on its way to placing first in the meet with a time of 9:03.69.

Ncube established a new Cloud County school mark by running 2:09.62 in placing third in the 800-meter run. The old record of 2:10.84 was set by Angelina Williams in 2011.

Cloud County had Ozia Trujillo finish third in the collegiate 1,500-meter run (4:46.33).

Jasmine Sakaguchi placed third in the collegiate pole vault (10-11). Her teammates Elizabeth Dunham and Bradie Medina tied for sixth (10-0).

Tamara Thompson finished fourth in the discus (165-10).

Anchike placed sixth in the 5,000-meter run (17:30.88).

Chenessa Davis was eighth in the long jump (18-2 1/2).

The Cloud County men had Awakhiwe Ndlovu win the collegiate long jump with a best of 49-9 3/4. Oageng Mdlela was second (49-1 3/4).

Siyabonga Mokogothu finished second in the invitational 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:09.91).

Cloud County’s 4x800 relay team of Ishmael Acheampong, Kamogela Thipe, Andres Young and Nichalas Power placed second (7:45.12).

The Cloud County distance medley relay team finished second (10:15.72).

Thipe was fourth in the invitational 800-meter run (1:51.19), Acheampong was sixth (1:51.89) and Power was eighth (1:54.62).

Brandon Hutchinson placed fifth in the 110-meter hurdles (14.94) and Bradley Nkosi was sixth (15.25).

Ifeanyichukuw Aninze finished fifth in the 400-meter hurdles (53.76).

Cloud County got a sixth-place finish by its 4x400 relay team (3:20.07).

Andre Smikle placed seventh in the discus (154-3).

Felix Surtan finished eighth in the collegiate 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:18.34).

Corey Otter was eighth in the high jump (6-9).
