Chapman rallies to sweep Panthers

CHAPMAN — Scoring seven runs in the fifth and sixth innings combined, the Chapman Irish rallied for a 10-6 victory over the Concordia Panthers in the second game of a North Central Kansas League baseball doubleheader played on April 16.

Concordia, which dropped the first game of the doubleheader to Chapman, 15-2 in five innings, led the second game 6-3 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning in game two.

The Irish batted around in the fifth inning and put up six runs on two hits, two walks and three errors to go on top to stay, 9-6.

Chapman scored all six runs with two outs.

The Irish added a run in the sixth inning to up the lead to 10-6.

Concordia was held scoreless over the final three innings.

Chane Parker pitched the first four and two-thirds innings for the Panthers and gave up four runs on just two hits. He struck out four and walked 10.

Caleb Hanson allowed six runs, four earned, on four hits in suffering the loss. He struck out and walked two.

Hanson and Payton Breese had two hits each for Concordia. Braeden Primeaux drove in two runs.

Concordia jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

Breese led off with a walk. Maddox Frey and Parker each walked to load the bases.

An error on a ball hit by Primeaux got Breese home.

Frey scored the second run on an error and Parker got home on a fielder’s choice ground ball by Joey Henderson.

Dustin Sterrett, who had reached base on an error, scored on a single by Hanson.

Henderson would steal home.

Chapman put up two runs in the second inning and one in the third to close the gap to 5-3.

Breese singled to lead off the top of the fourth inning. He advanced to third on a double by Parker and scored on a sacrifice fly by Primeaux.

Chapman rallied in the fifth and sixth innings to pull out the win.

The Panthers surrendered nine runs on six hits, three walks and an error in the first inning of game two.

Concordia made it a 9-2 game with two runs in the top of the third inning.

Drew Sterrett doubled and Reese walked.

A two-out double by Primeaux got two runs home.

Chapman sent 12 batters to the plate and scored six runs in the bottom of the third inning to make it a 15-2 game.

The game ended after the top of the fifth inning because of the 10-run rule.

Primeaux pitched the first two innings and took the loss for Concordia. He allowed 12 runs, 11 earned, on 10 hits, struck out two and walked three.

Keegun Beims gave up three unearned runs on two hits, struck out three and walked one in two innings.

Henderson and Hanson had two hits each. Primeaux knocked in two runs.
