CHS competes in Ellsworth Invitational

ELLSWORTH — The Concordia High School girls' tennis team opened its season by placing eighth in the Ellsworth Invitational on Tuesday.
Concordia scored 14 points in the tournament.
Ellsworth won the tournament with 60 points. Conway Springs finished a close second with 59 points and Smoky Valley was third with 43.
Lacie Duvall picked up one win in number one singles for Concordia. She lost 8-0 to Haley Osner, Conway Springs and 8-7 to Ava Madden, Trinity Catholic and then defeated Gracyn Dombroski, Ellinwood, 8-1.
Jesika Bisnette went 2-2 and placed fifth in number two singles for the Panthers.
Bisnette opened with an 8-1 loss to Jill Hett, Smoky Valley. She downed Lydia Porter, Ellinwood, 8-1; fell 8-7 to Elena Jundt, Ellsworth; and then got past Charlee Schlessiger, Central Plains, 8-4 in the fifth-place match.
Concordia's number one doubles team of Madelyn Stiles and Zoe Britt were beaten 8-1 by Grace Bender and Janel Meyer, Conway Springs and 8-4 by Mahra Johnston and Grace Strutz, Ellinwood. They rolled to an 8-1 victory over Morgan Brown and Annika Dietz, Trego County.
Kacie Price and Daegan DeGraff, playing number two doubles for the Panthers, lost 8-0 to Karlie Haase and Hanna Vague, Ellsworth, and 8-6 to Mackenzie Foulger and Kylie Kempke, Central Plains. They shut out Therese Little and Kaylee Reboul, Trinity Catholic, 8-0.
“We had a good day at Ellsworth for our opener on the season. All of the girls had at least one win on the day. We worked out some first game jitters and knocked off a little rust,” Concordia coach John Turner said.
The Concordia junior varsity placed third in the Beloit Invitational on Tuesday, scoring 18 points.
Chapman won the meet with 26 points and Beloit was second with 19.
Shanna Sulanka placed second in number one singles for Concordia. She recorded three wins in four matches.
Kiara Rugg and Ruby Genereux went 3-1 and finished second in number one doubles for the Panthers.
Emma Ramirez and Jazlyn Hendershott competed in number two doubles.
