CHS drops league game to Bulldogs

MARYSVILLE — The Marysville Bulldogs completed the regular season sweep of the Concordia Panthers with a 53-31 North Central Kansas League victory on Tuesday night.
Concordia suffered a home loss to Marysville in the first meeting back on December 14.
In the rematch, the Panthers, now 2-7 overall and 1-4 in league play, fell behind 6-0 in the first three minutes of the game.
Carlie Carlgren scored on a drive to make it a 6-2 game.
The Panthers would not score over the final five minutes of the first quarter.
Marysville, 5-3 overall and 4-1 in the NCKL, scored the final seven points of the period to open up a 14-2 advantage.
The two teams traded baskets over the first four minutes of the second quarter and the Bulldogs led 21-6 when Bella Rader knocked down a three-point shot.
Ashley Bartlett made one of two free throws, and Concordia was down 21-7.
Taylor Meyer scored for Marysville, but the Panthers answered with a bucket by Taylor McDaniel.
McDaniel, a 5-11 freshman, led the way for Concordia with 10 points.
Claire Holle scored in the final minute of the second quarter to give Marysville a 25-9 halftime lead.
Madison Ronnebaum tossed in the first two points of the second half to make it 27-9.
McDaniel scored for the Panthers.
Marysville then pumped in 10 straight points, six by Ronnebaum, to extend its lead to 39-11.
Ronnebaum, a 6-0 freshman, led all scorers with 21 points.
“It was poor position. Obviously her (Ronnebaum) size counts, but we were playing on the top side of her and that just makes it easy to score. They need be playing on the bottom side of her and pushing her out of the post,” Concordia coach Carly Bloomfield said.
Concordia was trailing 44-14 when Rheagan Bethune hit a three-point shot in the final seconds to make it 45-17.
With five different players scoring, the Panthers tossed in 14 points in the final quarter, to nine points for the Bulldogs.
“They showed up the fourth quarter. If they would have started the game the way they played the fourth quarter, I think things would have looked a little bit different,” Bloomfield said. “They kept at it and they got it into the post more, which is what we kept working on, which then obviously opened up some of the other players. We got a little more momentum.”
Bartlett scored seven points for Concordia and Carlgren added six points.
Rader scored 10 points for Marysville.
Concordia will host Chapman in a league game on Friday night.
