CHS girls place fifth in tournament

ST. GEORGE — The Concordia High School girls' wrestling team opened its season at the Rock Creek Invitational on Saturday.
Concordia placed fifth as a team with 96 points.
Six Panthers placed in the top four in their respective weight classes.
Gabi Lange went 3-0 on her way to capturing first place in the 130-pound class for Concordia.
Lange pinned teammate Arianna Wogomon in 1:23 in the opening round. She pinned Tori Hooper, Wamego, in 39 seconds, and then pinned Jessa Kibbe, Sabetha, in 21 seconds.
Wogomon placed second. After losing to Lange, she pinned Kibbe in1:09 and pinned Hooper in the third period.
Concordia's Nevaeh Valcoure placed third in the 170-pound class. She lost by fall to Sienna Jones, Alma-Wabaunsee; pinned NaRyiah Thomas, Sabetha, in 53 seconds; and pinned Sophia Carrier, Clay Center, in 16 seconds.
In the championship bracket, Valcoure was pinned by Faith Enger, Chapman. She then pinned Adison Honeycutt, Wamego, in 1:25 in the third-place match.
Concordia had Ruby Genereux, 135 pounds; Kiara Rugg, 140 pounds; and Megan Barr, 145 pounds, place fourth.
Genereux lost by fall to Payton Heideman, Rock Creek; pinned Ella Yakel, Wamego, in 36 seconds; lost by fall to Naomi Pearson, Sabetha,; lost by fall to Gabi Koppes, Clay Center; and pinned Brooklyn Miller, Sabetha, in 13 seconds.
Rugg lost by fall to Brooklyn Hill, Chapman; pinned Lyla Thomas, Rock Creek; and received a bye.
In the championship bracket, she lost by fall to Nakita Lawrence, Sabetha, and lost by fall to Hill in the third-place match.
Barr lost by fall to Kadence Guinn, Alma-Wabaunsee; lost by fall to Makalya Connor, Silver Lake; won by medical forfeit over Shae Urban, Clay Center; and lost by fall to Ella Johnson, Marysville.
