CHS golf team places seventh
SALINA — Kicking off a busy week at the Salina South Invitational, the Concordia High School golf team posted a seventh-place finish Monday at Salina Municipal Golf Course.
Concordia finished with a team score of 417.
Manhattan won the team title with a 296. Maize was second with a 316 and Hays was third with a 343.
“We had a good day today. Two of our golfers recorded personal records. We shot three strokes better as a team than we did at the Salina Central Invite on the same course,” Concordia coach Gene Rundus said. “Drivers were better, irons were straighter. Putting, and the short game in general, will be our focus as we move on into two more 18-hole tournaments this week at Marysville and Hesston.”
Concordia had senior Brecklynn Bonner and freshman Mya Niehues each shoot 97.
It was Bonner's lowest 18-hole score.
Sophomore Anna Widen shot a personal best 101 for Concordia.
Senior Emma Herman rounded out the top four for the Panthers with a 122.
Senior Kaitlyn Nelson and freshman Maddie Bowers each carded 122 for Concordia.
Kinslea Jones, Maize, fired a two-under par 68 to earn medalist honors.
Naomi Koontz, Newton, was second with a one-under par 69.
Concordia plays in the Marysville Invitational on Thursday and at the Buhler Invitational, at Hesston Golf Course, on Friday.
Concordia had three golfers compete in the 12-hole junior varsity tournament on the par three course at Salina on Monday.
Breckyn Reynolds placed first with a 62. Elora Henderson was second with a 64 and Samantha McManus was third with a 66.
