CHS places seventh at Clay Center

CLAY CENTER — Picking up two wins each in number one singles, number one doubles and number two doubles, the Concordia High School tennis team placed seventh in the Clay Center Invitational on Saturday.
Concordia, which did not have a number two singles player, scored eight points in the tournament.
Chapman won the tournament with 38 points. Clay Center was second with 28 and Beloit was third with 15.
Lacie Duvall, playing number one singles for Concordia, fell 6-3 to Sara Smith, Clay Center, and 6-0 to Katie Weiss, Sacred Heart.
Duvall then defeated Aleah Ortiz, Abilene, 6-3, and edged Ava Huske, Alma-Wabunsee, 7-6, to finish fifth.
Zoe Britt and Jesika Bisnette finished fifth in number one doubles for the Panthers.
Britt and Bisnette opened with a 6-2 loss to Ella Kramer and Tovah Catlin, Clay Center. They downed Josie Baer and Cora Merritt, Sacred Heart, 6-2; lost to Adin Bruna and Maddie Murray, Abilene, 6-4; and knocked off Sophie Easter and Emry Hardin, Beloit, 6-1.
Kacie Price and Daegan DeGraff placed fourth in number two doubles for Concordia.
Price and DeGraff fell 6-0 to Elizabeth Larson and Isley Lee, Clay Center. They downed Zoey Stone and Macy Alderman, Sacred Heart, 6-1, and Natasha Layton and Allison Rose, Abilene, 6-4, before losing 6-2 to Emily Meyer and Talen Orgon, Alma-Wabunsee.
Concordia will host its invitational tournament at 1 p.m. Thursday.
