CHS places seventh in tourney

CLAY CENTER — Madelyn Stiles and Zoe Britt picked up two wins and placed seventh in doubles for the Concordia High School tennis team in the Clay Center Invitational on Monday.
Stiles and Britt opened with a 6-1 win over Allyssa Tompkins and Selena Espinoza, Abilene. They then suffered a loss in a tiebreak to Chloe Odle and Sydney Thompson, Beloit, 6-6 (7-4).
Ella Kramer and Elizabeth Larson, Clay Center, got past Stiles and Britt, 6-4.
Stiles and Britt defeated Shelley Chen and Emry Hardin, Beloit, in the match for seventh place, 4-1.
Concordia finished seventh as a team with 10 points.
Chapman won the team title with 63 points. Clay Center finished second with 53 and Beloit was third with 38.
Concordia's Jesika Bisnette won two matches in singles for Concordia. She lost 6-0 to Ashlyn Knight, Beloit, in the first round.
Bisnette slipped past Alaina Motes, Sacred Heart, in a tiebreak, 6-6 (9-2) and downed Haylee Anguiano, Abilene, 6-3, before falling 6-3 to Meredith Denton, Wabaunsee, in the ninth-place match.
Lacie Duvall, also playing singles for the Panthers, lost 6-2 to Clara Gfeller, Chapman, and 6-2 to Meredith Denton, Wabaunsee. She defeated Anguiano, 6-1.
Concordia's Kacie Price and Daegen DeGraff lost 6-3 to Avery Baer and Meredith Kuntz, Chapman; 6-1 to Zoey Saum and Gabbi Diercks, Chapman; and 6-1 to Chloe Standefer and Hailey Standefer, Wabuansee.
The Concordia junior varsity competed in the Abilene Invitational on Monday.
In number one singles, Shanna Sulanka, lost 6-1 to Kate Frese, Marysville; 6-5 to Jenna Fickes, Chicago; and 6-5 to Callie Jones, Abilene.
Jessica Klein, playing number two singles, fell 6-1 to Lydia Peterson, Clay Center; 6-3 to Gracie Hylton, Abilene; and 6-2 to Lexi Roach, Chapman.
Katria Kindscher and Gracey Drury, in number one doubles, were beaten 6-5 by AnnaLea Hendrickson and Izzy Blackwood, Clay Center; 6-2 by Josephine Bahles and Kallie Bergamo, Chapman; and 6-0 by Maci Meuli and Reonna Christensen, Abilene.
Kiara Rugg and Brooklyn Howard played number two doubles for Concordia. They lost 6-2 to Candence Halfhill and Haylee Hammel, Ellsworth; defeated Victoria Howard and Teyah Workman, Chapman, 6-4; and lost 6-5 to Kaley Chambers and Kylee Shivers, Clay Center.
