CHS races past Pike Valley, 94-35

COURTLAND — Setting an early tone, the Concordia High School boys' basketball team raced past an overmatched Pike Valley team 94-35 Tuesday night.
Concordia, now 9-6, jumped out to a quick 15-2 lead in the game.
Leading by as many as 23 points in the first quarter, Concordia would put together runs of 10-0 and 11-0 in the second period to open up a 59-21 halftime advantage.
Concordia then scored the first 16 points of the second half on its way to the lopsided win.
“I thought our guys did a good job of focusing for 32 minutes,” Concordia coach Derek Holmes said.
Returning to action after a week off, Concordia scored the first seven points against Pike Valley, which is now 6-8.
Pike Valley's first points came from a jumper by Keaton Reeves that made it 7-2.
Getting a pair of steals, Concordia scored eight quick points and led 15-2.
Jaxon Russell hit a baseline jumper, and Pike Valley trailed 15-4 with 3:30 gone by.
Concordia scored the next 12 points to open up a 27-6 advantage.
It was a 30-7 Concordia lead when Reeves tossed in four points in the final minute of the third quarter to make it 30-11.
Reeves, who led Pike Valley with 14 points, scored the first two of the second quarter to make it 30-13.
The two teams traded baskets and then Concordia used a 14-2 spurt to go up 46-17.
“We are doing a lot better job moving the ball on offense the last few weeks,” Holmes said.
Concordia, leading 48-21, scored the final 11 points of the first half, seven by Tyler Hobrock, to take a commanding 59-21 halftime lead.
Hobrock scored 20 points in the game. He finished six of eight from the field and 8 of 11 from the free throw line and also grabbed a team-high 14 rebounds.
Concordia pulled down 53 rebounds in the game, including 25 on the offensive end.
All five starters scored as Concordia opened the second half with 16 unanswered points to extend its lead to 77-21.
A free throw by Reeves and a three-point basket by Elijah Field halted the Concordia run.
Concordia outscored Pike Valley 9-2 over the final minutes of the third quarter and led 86-27 heading into the fourth.
With a running clock in the final period, each team scored eight points.
Concordia had 14 players see action in the game and eight of them scored.
“It was nice to get to play a lot of guys and see them play well,” Holmes said.
Cav Carlgren led Concordia with 21 points and also had nine rebounds.
Joey Henderson scored 15 points for Concordia and had six assists and five rebounds.
Aceyn Cash also reached double figures with 11 points and pulled down five rebounds.
Jonathan Turner came off the bench to score nine points and grab eight rebounds.
Concordia hit 36 of 66 field goal attempts for 55 percent and 17 of 25 free throws for 68 percent.
The Panthers had 20 assists in the game.
Russell joined Reeves in double figures for Pike Valley with 10 points.
Concordia will again have a week off before hosting Riley County next Tuesday.
