CHS tumbles twice to Tigers

An unearned run in the top of the 11th inning allowed the Clay Center Tigers to edge the Concordia Panthers 3-2 in the opening game of a North Central Kansas League doubleheader Monday at the Concordia Sports Complex.
Concordia, trailing 2-1, scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to force extra innings in the game.
Neither team would score in the eighth, ninth or 10th innings.
An error with two out in the top of the 11th inning got the go ahead run on base for Clay Center.
Another error and a single allowed the Tigers to take the lead.
Kinsleigh Bethune reached base on an error to lead off the bottom of the 11th inning for Concordia.
A sacrifice bunt by Hanna Acree advanced Bethune to second base.
Consecutive strikeouts ended the game.
Clay Center would then shut out Concordia 14-0 in the second game of the doubleheader.
The Panthers finished up the regular season 11-7 overall and 2-6 in the league. They will play in the Class 4A regional tournament next week at a site to be determined.
Concordia broke a scoreless tie with a run in the bottom of the third inning in the first game against  Clay Center.
Acree reached base on a fielder choice. She went to second on a single by Erinae Flesher, advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on a passed ball.
Clay Center tied the game with a run in the fourth inning.
The Tigers scored a run in the top of the seventh inning, and led 2-1.
Shaelin Giersch walked to lead off the bottom of the seventh inning.
Carly Brown, running for Giersch, went to second on an error.
A ground ball by Kenlee Williams moved Brown to third.
Brown scored the tying run on a ground ball by Callie Parker.
Parker was left stranded at third base, and the game went to extra innings.
Acree pitched all 11 innings in taking the loss. She gave up three runs, two earned, on 11 hits, struck out 10 and walked two.
Concordia was limited to just two hits in the game, both by Flesher.
The Panthers were shut out on two hits in the second game of the doubleheader.
Clay Center jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning.
Tacking on eight runs in the third inning, the Tigers led 12-0.
Clay Center added two more runs in the fourth inning.
The game ended after five innings.
Flesher took the loss for the Panthers.
