CHS wrestlers place second at Beloit

BELOIT — Seven wrestlers placed in the top five in their respective weight classes to lead the Concordia Panthers to a second-place finish in the Beloit Invitational that finished up on Saturday.
Ashton Dooley, 113 pounds, and Koby Tyler, 120 pounds, placed second for Concordia.
Christian Belden, 106 pounds, and Daniel Vines, 132 pounds, finished third for the Panthers.
Drew Sterrett, 126 pounds; Caleb Hanson, 175 pounds; and Tracer Mudock, 190 pounds, recorded fifth-place finishes.
Concordia scored 134.5 points in the two-day tournament.
Hoxie won the team title.
Dooley (20-6) received a bye in the opening round. He won 6-4 in sudden victory over Kyle Rector, Salina South, in the quarterfinals and pinned Coe Neilson, Beloit, in the third-period in the semifinals.
Ian Giancola, Hoxie, pinned Dooley in the championship match.
Tyler (23-1) also got a bye in the first round. He won a 15-1 major decision over Brayton Peters, Minneapolis, in the quarterfinals and a 9-1 major decision over Kaden Markley, Blue Valley Southwest, in the semifinals.
AJ Polansky, Republic County, handed Tyler his first loss of the season, 6-4, in sudden victory, in the finals.
Belden (16-2), after receiving a bye, pinned Wyatt McCulley, Blue Valley Southwest, in 1:48.
Ryder Dempewolf, Colby, won a narrow 10-8 decision over Belden in the semifinals.
Belden, in the consolation bracket, pinned Angelo Otero, Holcomb, in 1:39. He won a 7-4 decision over Alexander Hamel, Hill City, in the third-place match.
Vines (27-3) won by technical fall, 16-1, over Bracksten Carr, Smith Center. He pinned Keagan Warders, Marysville, in 2:28 before suffering a 1-0 loss to undefeated Carson Ochs, Hoxie, in the semifinals.
In the consolation bracket, Vines pinned Owen Weatherhead, Republic County, in 16 seconds and pinned Cohen Kaiser, Plainville, in 2:05 in the third-place match.
Sterrett (24-4) pinned Jarret Rose, Marysville, in his first match. He lost a 10-9 decision to Jimmy Gordon, Clay Center, in the quarterfinals.
Pinning Landon Erickson, Smith Center, in 33 seconds and winning a 5-0 decision over Zach McMurray, Salina South, Sterrett advanced to the consolation semifinals.
Sterrett suffered a 7-1 loss to Christopher McClanahan, Abilene. He then won by forfeit over Tyler Ashbaugh, Hill City, in the fifth-place match.
Hanson (23-6) received a bye and was pinned by Ryan Richardson, Blue Valley Southwest, in the quarterfinals.
In the consolation bracket, Hanson pinned Caleb Hill, Colby, in 2:06 and pinned Aidan Henely, Abilene, in 3:20.
Garrett Siemsen, Republic County, pinned Hanson in the consolation semifinals.
Hansen won in sudden victory, 17-15, over Garrett Emigh, Oberlin, in the fifth-place match.
Murdock (20-9) pinned Health Hoekman, Abilene, in 41 seconds and won in sudden victory, 5-3, over Juandre Walton, Marysville, in the quarterfinals.
Kyle Werner, Plainville, defeated Murdock, 4-0 in the semifinals.
Murdock lost a 7-3 decision to Cade Small, Chanute, in the consolation semifinals. He won an 8-0 major decision over Ethan Tiers, Clay Center, in the fifth-place match.
Concordia has a makeup North Central Kansas League dual against Abilene scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
