Cloud County’s Ameer records second-place finish

KEARNEY, Neb. — Posting four wins before suffering his lone loss, Cloud County Community College's Ibrahim Ameer placed second in the 197-pound class in the Younes Hospitality Open hosted by the University of Nebraska-Kearney Saturday at Buffalo County Fairgrounds.
There were wrestlers from 55 NCAA, NAIA and junior college teams competing in the tournament.
Ameer pinned Dante Paolone, Western Colorado University, in the opening round. He needed just 22 seconds to pin Brandon Knoles, Colby Community College, and 44 seconds to pin Tre Daro, Nebraska-Kearney.
Advancing to the semifinals, Ameer won by technical fall, 17-2, over Angel Fuentes, Northeastern Junior College.
Nate Wemstrom, University of Nebraska, won an 8-0 major decision over Ameer in the championship match.
Ameer had defeated Wemstrom twice in the Grand View Open the week before.
Cloud County had Dylan Ancheta, 157 pounds; Wyatt Powell, 184 pounds; and Jahmari Pleasant, 285, pounds, pick up three wins each in the tournament.
Gavin Nutting, 285 pounds, recorded two wins.
