Cloud County splits with Saints

LIBERAL — Ian Riley and Danny Infante homered and Kolden Howerton drove in two runs as the Cloud County Community College baseball team rebounded from a one-run loss to knock off Seward County Community College 5-2 in the second game of a Jayhawk Conference West Division doubleheader on Sunday.
Cloud County dropped the first game of the twinbill, 3-2.
Riley hit a solo home run in the top of the first inning and the Thunderbirds would not trail in game two.
Cloud County, 37-12 overall and 20-8 in conference play, made it a 2-0 game with a run in the second inning.
Infante singled, advanced to third and scored on a fly ball by Tristan Tenorio.
A double by Howerton drove in Riley and Brock Wollin in the fifth inning, and the T-Birds led 4-0.
A solo home run by Infante in the sixth inning extended Cloud County's lead to 5-0.
Shut out through the first eight innings, Seward County would score its only two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Joel Benes pitched seven shutout innings to pick up the win for the T-Birds. He gave up three hits, struck out nine and didn't walk any.
Cole Askew allowed two hits, struck out two and walked one in one inning.
Brady Stuewe worked the final inning and surrendered two runs on one hit and walked two.
Infante was 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored.
Howerton had three hits in three at bats and knocked in two runs.
Riley and Ty Wevers had two hits each.
Cloud County took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of game one on a home run by Tom Poole.
Poole scored on a fly ball by Garrett Redden in the third inning to put the T-Birds on top, 2-0.
Cloud County was shut out on one hit over the final four innings.
Jack Mount and Giordano Mezzomo held Seward County scoreless through six innings.
The Saints scored three runs on three hits and two walks in the bottom of the seventh inning to pull out the 3-2 victory.
Mount gave up three hits, struck out 12 and walked two in five and a third innings.
Mezzomo allowed two runs on one hit, struck out two and walked one in two-thirds of an inning.
Rans Sanders gave up one run on two hits and walked one in a third of an inning.
Cloud County will wrap up the conference season with a four-game series against Barton Community College on Thursday and Saturday.
The T-Birds are in second place in the Jayhawk West and trail Barton (18-6).
