Cloud County splits with Southeast

The Cloud County Community College softball team split a doubleheader with Southeast (Neb.) Community College Tuesday at the CCCC Softball Field.
Cloud County held on to defeat Southeast 12-10 in the opening game of the twinbill.
The Storm used an 11-run second inning to topple the Thunderbirds 16-2 in the second game and earn the split.
Cloud County (8-5) fell behind 2-0 in the top of the first inning in game one.
A two-run home run by Ryleigh Jones in the bottom of the first inning pulled the T-Birds even at 2-2.
Two runs in the top of the second inning gave Southeast the lead back at 4-2.
Cloud County went on top to stay, 5-4, with three runs in the bottom of the second.
Mia Kelly scored on a wild pitch.
A failed pickoff attempt allowed Ella Caudill to score.
A fly ball by Delaney Exon got Rae Ann Hartwig home.
Taylor Dekok hit a solo home run in the third inning and the T-Birds put up five runs to extend their lead to 10-4.
Shayna Fila singled to drive in Kelly in the inning.
Fila and Caudill scored on a double by Jones.
A fly ball by Exon plated Jones.
Southeast closed the gap to 10-9 with five runs in the top of the fifth inning.
Adding two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, Cloud County led 12-9.
Jones doubled home Caudill in the inning and Fila scored on a ground ball by Exon.
The Storm scored one run in the top of the seventh inning to make the final 12-10.
Taylor Dekok pitched the first four innings to get the win for the T-Birds. She gave up eight runs on seven hits, struck out three and walked two.
Kyra Meyer worked two innings and allowed two runs on two hits.
Jones had three hits in three at bats, drove in five runs and scored two.
Exon knocked in three runs.
Fila and Caudill had two hits and scored three runs each.
Kelly was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and Hartwig and Alexis Billings had two hits each.
Leading 1-0 after one inning in the second game, Storm erupted for 11 runs, seven hits and three walks in the top of the second.
Four runs in the top of the third inning gave Southeast a 16-0 advantage.
Hartwig hit a two-run home run for Cloud County in the bottom of the third.
The game ended after five innings.
Meyer surrendered four runs on four hits and walked one in one inning in taking the loss.
McKenna Mayhew allowed four runs on two hits and walked two in two-thirds of an inning.
Dekok allowed eight runs, two earned, on five hits and walked three.
