Cloud County sweeps Hawks

Scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Cloud County Community College softball team rallied for an 8-7 victory over Northeast (Neb.) Community College in its home opener on Monday.
Cloud County suffered an 11-7 loss in the second game of the doubleheader, and is now 3-1.
The Thunderbirds trailed Northeast 7-6 heading into the bottom of the seventh in game one.
Ryleigh Jones led off with a single. She would steal second and third and score the tying run on a throwing error.
Zoie Kincaide and Delaney Exon drew back-to-back walks with one out.
A two-out single by Grace Utz got Kincade home with the winning run.
McKenna Mayhew got the win in relief of Kyra Meyer. She gave up one run on four hits and struck out four in three innings.
Meyer allowed six runs, four earned, on eight hits, struck out two and walked two in four innings.
Northeast scored one run in the second inning, two in the third and one in the top of the fourth to take a 4-0 lead.
Cloud County closed the gap to 4-3 with three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Jones hit a solo home run in the inning.
Exon singled home a run and Mayhew doubled to drive in Kincaide.
A two-run home run in the top of the fifth inning extended Northeast's lead to 6-3.
Cloud County tied the game at 6-6 with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Mayhew drove in two runs with a double and scored on a double by Utz.
A run in the top of the seventh inning put the Hawks back on top, 7-6.
The T-Birds then picked up two runs in the bottom of the inning to get the win.
Mayhew was 2-for-3 at the plate with three runs batted in.
Utz had two hits and drove in two runs.
Jones had two hits and scored two runs and Kincade scored three runs.
In the second game, the Hawks scored one run in the second inning and two in the top of the fourth to go up 3-0.
Kincade scored on a throwing error in the bottom of the fourth, and Cloud County trailed 3-1.
Northeast made it 4-1 with a run in the top of the fifth inning.
Scoring two runs in the bottom of the fifth, the T-Birds pulled within a run at 4-3.
Jones singled to drive in Shayna Fila and scored on an error.
It was still a 4-3 game in the top of the seventh inning when Northeast erupted for seven runs to go up 11-3.
Cloud County scored four runs in the seventh to make it 11-7.
Jones singled to drive in Rae Ann Hartwig and scored on a single by Kincade.
Mayhew tripled home a pair of runs.
Taylor Dekok suffered the loss. She allowed six runs, four earned, on eight hits, struck out four and walked seven in seven innings.
Mayhew gave up three unearned runs and walked two.
Jones had three hits in four at bats, drove in two runs and scored two.
Mayhew was 2-for-4 with two runs batted in.
Kincade had two hits and scored two runs.
