Concordia has seven wrestlers qualify for state

ABILENE — Led by three individual champions, the Concordia High School wrestling team had seven wrestlers qualify for the Class 4A state tournament by placing in the top four in their respective weight classes in the regional tournament on Saturday.
Christian Belden, 106 pounds; Daniel Vines, 126 pounds; and Keyan Miller, 182 pounds, captured regional titles for Concordia.
The Panthers had Easton Swihart, 138 pounds, and Nathan Brown, 170 pounds, place third in the regional.
Ashton Dooley, 113 pounds, and Logan Leiszler, 120 pounds, qualified for state with fourth-place finishes.
The state tournament is scheduled for Friday and Saturday at the Tony’s Pizza Event Center in Salina.
Concordia placed fourth as a team in the regional with 140.5 points.
Scott Community claimed the team title with 180.5 points. Colby was second with 155 and Clay Center was third with 141.
Belden, a sophomore, pinned Weston Salminen, Wamego, in 1:12 in his opening match. He then pinned Austin Kreutzer, Nickerson, in 28 seconds in the semifinals.
Moving into the championship match, Belden won a 7-2 decision over Dawsen Degood, Colby.
Belden will take a 32-6 record into the state tournament.
Vines, a junior who is 35-1 this season, received a bye in the opening round. He pinned Morgan Brumfield, Clay Center, in 1:42 and then pulled out a 1-0 victory over Treyton Pelnar, McPherson, in the semifinals.
In the championship match, Vines defeated Collin McDaniel, Scott Community, 6-2.
Miller (37-2) also had a bye in the opening round and then pinned Kody Howard, Rock Creek, in 1:20. He won a 5-0 decision over Jake Meyer, Wamego, in the semifinals.
Advancing to the title match, Miller, a senior, pinned Kale Wheeler, Scott Community, in the third period.
Swihart, a sophomore, pinned Calvin White, Nickerson, in 38 seconds in the opening round, and then lost by fall to Garett Kalivoda, Clay Center, in the quarterfinals.
In the consolation bracket, Swihart pinned Jaxson Roeder, Buhler, in 57 seconds and won by injury default over Javin Welsh, Abilene.
Swihart (22-15) pinned Nick Cruickshank, Wamego, in 54 seconds in the third-place match.
Brown (33-8), pinned Tristan Randles, Abilene, in 2:24 and won a 4-0 decision over Brendan Smith, Rock Creek.
Brett Loader, Clay Center, pinned Brown in the semifinals.
Brown, a senior, defeated Maverick Speser, Goodland, 4-0 in the consolation semifinals, and then defeated Jase Fitzmorris, McPherson, 7-1 in the third-place match.
After receiving a bye in the first round, Dooley, a sophomore, lost an 8-0 major decision to Evan Fry, Scott Community.
Dooley (18-16) pinned Takoda Hauck, Smoky Valley, in 50 seconds; won a 13-1 major decision over Carson Houchen, McPherson; and defeated Myles Callahan, Abilene, 3-1; before losing by fall to Fry in a rematch in the third-place match.
Leiszler (28-13) received a bye in the opening round and then won a 6-2 decision over Drew Lugafet, Buhler.
Aiden Cook, Colby, pinned Leiszler, in the semifinals.
Leiszler, a senior, won by technical fall, 16-0, over Brock Burgess, McPherson, in the consolation semifinals. He was pinned by DJ Knox, Goodland, in the third-place match.
Concordia had Drew Sterrett, 132 pounds, and Cody Trost, 145 pounds, pick up two wins each in the tournament.
