Concordia places fourth in invitational tournament

Splitting four pool play matches, and dropping a pair of matches in bracket play, the Concordia High School volleyball team placed fourth in the invitational tournament it hosted on Saturday.
Concordia, now 13-13 on the season, opened pool play with a 25-18, 25-23 loss to Marysville.
Taylor McDaniel had six kills and three digs in the match for Concordia.
Carlie Carlgren had seven service points with two aces and five digs.
Char Cash also had seven service points and two aces.
Baylen Arnold added five service points and three digs.
Smith Center downed the Panthers 25-19, 25-21.
Kynlee Hamel had six kills and two blocks for Concordia.
Jaylin Roush finished with five kills.
Kenlee Williams had four kills and two blocks.
McDaniel had eight digs, two kills and four service points.
Rylie Jessup had seven digs and Kinsleigh Bethune had five digs and five service points.
Smith Center went 4-0 on its way to winning Pool B.
Concordia went three sets to capture its first win over Hanover.
The Panthers lost the first set 25-19 and then won the next two, 25-8, 25-22.
Hamel racked up 15 kills in the win and had three digs and two blocks.
Carlgren finished with seven kills, six digs and 12 service points with three aces.
Williams had seven kills and three blocks.
McDaniel had six kills, six digs and five service points.
Arnold had 19 digs and six service points.
Hattie Blackwood had seven service points with three aces and three digs.
Concordia finished up pool play 2-2 by squeezing out a 26-24, 25-23 victory over Clay Center..

Concordia won a tiebreaker over Hanover to finish second in the pool and advanced to the semifinals.
Beloit, which went 4-0 in winning Pool A, defeated Concordia 25-17, 25-17 in the semifinals.

Carlgren had three kills, eight digs, three service points and two blocks.
Blackwood had six digs, five assists and four service points.

In the third-place match, the Northeast Kansas Nighthawks downed Concordia, 25-15, 25-16.

Beloit knocked off Smith Center in the championship match of the tournament.
Concordia will host Abilene in a pair of North Central Kansas League matches on Tuesday night.
