Concordia splits with Tigers

CLAY CENTER — Wrapping up its regular season on the road, the Concordia High School girls' softball team split a North Central Kansas League doubleheader with Clay Center on Monday.
Concordia shut out Clay Center 3-0 in the first game of the twinbill and dropped the second game, 11-1.
The Panthers finished the regular season 8-12 overall and 3-7 in league play. They will host the Class 3A sub-state tournament on May 15-16.
Concordia senior Hanna Acree blanked Clay Center on eight hits in game one. She struck out five and walked one.
The Panthers broke a scoreless tie by scoring two runs with two out in the fourth inning
Kenlee Williams got things started with a double. She advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on a single by Shaelin Giersch.
Kinsleigh Bethune walked and Emalee Johnson singled to load the bases.
Brecklynn Bonner drew a walk to force home Giersch with the second run.
Giersch led off the sixth inning with a home run to give the Panthers the 3-0 cushion. She finished 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs batted in and two runs scored.
Concordia was then limited to just one run on four hits in game two.
Clay Center got out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
Two runs in the second inning and two in the third gave the Tigers a 6-0 cushion.
The Panthers scored their only run in the bottom of the third.
Williams reached base on a fielder's choice ground ball.
Giersch singled and Bethune followed with a base hit that got Williams home.
Clay Center answered with four runs in the top of the fourth inning, and led 10-1.
The Tigers added one run in the fifth inning.
The game ended after five innings.
Erinae Flesher suffered the loss. She gave up 11 runs on 10 hits and struck out one.
