Concordia used balanced attack to down Phillipsburg

PHILLIPSBURG — Four players scored in double figures as the Concordia High School boys' basketball team picked up its fourth consecutive win by defeating Phillipsburg 66-43 in a road game Tuesday night.
Sophomore guard Joey Henderson led the balanced Concordia offensive attack with 18 points.
Cav Carlgren, a senior guard, finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Senior Tyler Hobrock scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Junior Aceyn Cash added 10 points.
“It is very beneficial for us to have a lot of guys scoring and playing with confidence because it makes us more difficult to defend,” Concordia coach Derek Holmes said. “A lot of guys have just developed more confidence as the season has progressed and we are also getting some good minutes from our bench. So it is a combination of things that we are really playing well right now.”
Concordia improves to 12-6 with the win heading into its final two regular season games.
The Panthers will host Wamego on Friday night and play at Clay Center next Tuesday night.
“We talked about after the Abilene loss that we have a good chance to win the last six. We have just got to take one game at a time, so we have got four in a row,” Holmes said. “Obviously we have two tough games coming up with Wamego and Clay. We have to play at a high level.”
Phillipsburg (9-9) led Concordia just once in the game at 2-0.
Holding Phillipsburg scoreless for over four minutes, Concordia tossed in nine straight points to go on top to stay, 9-2.

Rad Rodriguez connected on back-to-back three-point shots to pull Phillipsburg to within three points, 17-14.
Concordia then took control.
Turner scored off an offensive rebound and Carlgren and Hobrock hit two free throws each to make it 22-15.

Phillipsburg got a basket by Julius Stutterheim to make it 25-18.

Peyton Retter followed up a missed shot as time expired in the first half, and Concordia led 38-20.
“That run right before half was huge for us. It went from six to 18 in two and half minutes. Aceyn and Joey hit some big threes in that stretch,” Holmes said.
