DODGE CITY — Following up an 83 with an 84, Concordia High School junior Lewis VanMeter finished in a tie for 34th place in the Class 3A state golf tournament that finished up Tuesday at Mariah Hills Golf Course.
VanMeter, the lone Concordia player to make the cut in the two-day tournament, turned in identical rounds of 42-42 to card an 84 on Tuesday and tied with Aidan Hill, Frontenac.
Shooting 38 on the front nine in the opening day of the tournament on Monday, VanMeter shot 45 on the back nine to post an 83 and advance to the second day.
The top six teams and the number of individuals that it took to bring the field to 54 players made the cut after day one.
Concordia finished with a four-man score of 345 on Monday and finished in eighth place, four strokes behind Scott City and Santa Fe Trail.
“It was great to take a team back to state for a second year in a row. While we came up four strokes short of bringing everyone back for day two, we were proud to support Lewis through his round,” Concordia coach Gene Rundus said. “It was a good season and I am looking forward to next year.”
Concordia senior Aden Plymesser followed up a 47 with a 38 to shoot 85 on the first day.
Sophomore Luke Donovan bounced back from a 49 on the front to shoot a 38 on the back and finish with a 97.
Karson Lister, a sophomore, rounded out the top four for the Panthers by shooting 46-44 for a 90.
Senior Keegan Hamel and sophomore Lennon Ninemire each shot 94.
Heritage Christian Academy, out of Olathe, won the team title with a two-day score of 613.
Sabetha finished second with a 635 and Hesston was third with a 642.
Lane Workman, Santa Fe Trail, was the individual medalist. He shot 72-70 to finish at even par 142.
Owen Evans, Heritage Christian Academy, was second with a 146.
Camden Waterson, Hesston, placed third with a 147.
