Donovan named to 4A All-State team

Concordia High School senior Abby Donovan, a four time state placer, has been named to the Class 4A All-State Team by the Kansas Golf Coaches Association.
Donovan capped off her career with a second-place finish in the 4A state tournament at Emporia Municipal Golf Course. She shot 79-80 to finish with a total score of 159, one stroke behind state champion Payton Ginter, Wellington (82-72 158).
The second-place finish at state by Donovan matches the best ever by a Concordia golfer.
As a junior, Donovan finished third in the state tournament at Hesston Golf Course.
Donovan tied for 19th at state her sophomore year and placed 17th as a freshman. She is one of three Concordia golfers to medal all four years at state, joining Haley Funk and Cassie Lowell.
“Though such a list of accomplishments would cause many to have an elevated impression of one's self, perhaps Abby's biggest accomplishment, and the mark of a true champion, has been her ability to remain humble in the midst of her success,” Concordia coach Steve Nelson said.
Donovan, who was the individual medalist in four tournaments her senior season, including the 4A regional at Holton Country Club, won the Concordia Invitational four straight times.
Joining Donovan on the All-State first team include: Ginter; Elly Bertholf, Winfield; Jaela Albers, Andale; and Lauren Specht, Buhler.
Second team All-State selections include: Jensen Heideman, Topeka Hayden; Avery Blasi, Pratt; Callie Cooper, Buhler; Chaney Littell, Winfield; Morgan Brusven, Tonganoxie; and Kirby McKee, Wamego.
Named third team All-State include: Ashten Pierson, Wamego; Toree Hoobler, Wamego; Celine Mendoza, Winfield; Kate Roeder, Topeka Hayden; Rylie Cannon, Buhler; and Marlie Cooper, Buhler.
