Eighth grade drops opener to Fort Riley
Outscored 6-4 in the second overtime, the Concordia eighth grade girls' basketball team suffered a narrow 34-32 loss to Fort Riley in its season opener Thursday night at the Concordia Junior-Senior High School gymnasium.
Concordia trailed 7-6 after one quarter of play.
The Panthers scored six points in the second period to four for Fort Riley, and led 12-11 at halftime.
Fort Riley pumped in 11 points in the third quarter, and limited Concordia to four points, to go up 22-16.
Concordia then allowed just two points in the fourth period, and scored eight, to pull even at 24-24 and force overtime.
Each team scored four points in the first extra period, and the game was knotted at 28-28.
Fort Riley then scored six points in the second overtime to four for the Panthers.
Jaylin Roush led Concordia with 14 points.
The Concordia B-team rolled to a 31-9 win over Fort Riley.
Concordia had a 17-6 lead at halftime.
The Panthers added 14 points in the second half and gave up just three points.
Ava Metro scored eight points for Concordia.
Kinzee Motes added six points.
