F&A Food Sales thumps Smith Center

Erupting for 11 runs in the second inning, F&A Food Sales thumped Smith Center 14-2 in three innings in the first round of the K-18 Baseball East Regional Tournament Tuesday night at the Concordia Sports Complex.
F&A Food Sales advances to the semifinals of the tournament on Thursday night, and will play the winner of the game between Concordia Citizens National Bank and Beloit Red that is scheduled for tonight.
In the other first-round game played Tuesday night, Clifton shut out Waconda, 8-0.
Clifton will play the winner of the Lucas-Republic County game on Thursday.
The top four teams from the tournament qualify for the K-18 State Tournament.
F&A Food Sales and Smith Center were scoreless through one inning.
Eleven straight batters reached base during the 11-run second inning for F&A Food Sales.
Aidan Poore walked to lead off the inning.
Alex Francis singled, Kale Pearson and Logan Leiszler walked. Each would come around to score.
Stryker Hake was hit by a pitch and came around to score.
Keyan Miller and Shelby Giersch walked and scored.
Nathan Brown doubled and scored.
Dalton Owen walked and scored.
Poore drew a second walk and scored a second run in the inning.
Pearson walked for a second time and scored another run.
Smith Center scored its only two runs in the top of the third inning.
F&A Food Sales added three runs in the bottom of the third.
Giersch was hit by a pitch to lead things off, and came around to score.
Owen doubled and scored in the inning, and Francis singled and scored.
The game ended after three innings.
Miller did the pitching for F&A Food Sales.
Francis had two hits and scored two runs.
