Four Panthers place first in Cardinal Corner Classic

HOISINGTON — Led by four individual champions, the Concordia High School wrestling team had 12 of 13 competitors place in the top five of their respective weight classes in the Cardinal Corner Classic hosted by Hoisington High School on Friday.
Ashton Dooley, 113 pounds; Koby Tyler, 120 pounds; Drew Sterrett, 126 pounds; and Easton Swihart, 138 pounds, captured individual titles for Concordia.
The Panthers finished second in the tournament as a team with 189.5.
Great Bend won the team title with 198 points. Liberal finished third with 118 points.
Dooley (10-2) pinned Kason Ramsey, Holcomb, in 1:05 and Brian Casas, Liberal, in 3:27. He won an 8-0 major decision over Aaron Ramirez, Great Bend, and then won by technical fall, 15-0, over Ambrose Kramer, Great Bend, to finish 4-0.
Tyler (11-0) pinned Jhadyn Turner, Hoisington, in 1:32. He then pinned Wyatt Nation, Cimarron, in 1:00.
Sterrett (12-1) won four matches on his way to placing first. He pinned Louis Gonzalez, Great Bend, in 21 seconds; pinned Alan Ortega, Holcomb, 29 seconds; pinned Landon Beaver, Hoisington, in 32 seconds; and then won a 10-0 major decision over Hayden Kelly, Great Bend, in the title match.
Swihart (8-1) went 5-0 on his way to placing first. He pinned Hawk Vainerere, Holcomb, in 34 seconds; pinned Javid Corral, Holcomb, in 28 seconds; pinned Cade Parr, Larned, in 48 seconds; pinned Michael Hipp, Hoisington, in 16 seconds; and then won an 8-1 decision over Skyler McMullen, Great Bend, in the finals.
Concordia had Daniel Vines, 132 pounds; Torxsten Kindel, 144 pounds; Mason Eickmann, 165 pounds; and Caleb Hanson, 175 pounds, place second.
Vines (12-2) won by technical fall, 16-1, over Eli Lewis, Hoisington; pinned Adam Hayes, Ellinwood, in 1:16; pinned Deven Hernandez, in 55 seconds; and won by technical fall, 20-5, over Kaiden Hoffman, Great Bend.
In the championship match, Vines lost by tiebreaker, 11-10, to Gregery Martinez, Holcomb.
Kindel (8-5) pinned Cylis Saldana, Holcomb, in 2:46; pinned Preston Roat, Hoisington, in 26 seconds; pinned Jameson Smith, Larned, in 1:07; and pinned Taylen Morales, Hoisington, in 1:02.
Tommy McClure, Liberal, defeated Kindel by fall in the title match.
Eickmann (10-3) pinned Jacob Colglazier, Larned, in 1:55; lost a 7-2 decision to Zach Hilton, Eureka; pinned Cooper Gun, Ellinwood, in 1:57; pinned Michael Montoya, Great Bend, in 4:49; and pinned Kenton Grauerholz, Great Bend, in 1:03.
Hanson (12-1) pinned Nathan Hameke, Ellinwood, in 57 seconds; pinned Andy Nguyen, Liberal, in 1:06; pinned Javan Farr, Holcomb, in six seconds; and then lost by fall to Matthew Johnson, Great Bend, in the championship match.
Dustin Sterrett, 150 pounds; Bergun Kindel, 157 pounds; and Tracer Murdock, 190 pounds, placed fourth for Concordia.
Sterrett (8-6) pinned David Colglazier, Larned, in 2:27; pinned Gabe Martinez, Ellinwood, in 55 seconds; and pinned Even Peitz, Holcomb, in 40 seconds. He then lost by fall to Jace Schartz, Great Bend, and lost by fall to Aidan Schwindt, Liberal, in the third-place match.
Kindel (7-6) pinned Trevin Maciel, Great Bend, in 1:42; pinned Zach Seifers, Ellinwood, in 55 seconds; and pinned Matthew Figger, in 2:58. He lost a narrow 9-8 decision to Abe Llanas, Stafford, and then lost by fall to Logan Seifried, Cimarron, in the third-place match.
Murdock (9-4) pinned Andrew Bogner, Cimarron, in 3:04, and pinned Ethan Schlotermeier, Ellinwood, in 30 seconds. He lost a 2-0 decision to Luke Fischer, Larned; lost by forfeit to Trystian Juarez, Liberal; and then lost a 7-4 decision to Trenton Kern, Great Bend, in the third-place match.
Michael Ashland, 285 pounds, placed fifth for Concordia.
Ashland (8-4) pinned Jordan Angel, Great Bend, in 10 seconds; lost an 8-4 decision to Noah Deines, Hoisington; lost by fall to Jonathan Mason, Ellinwood; and then defeated Trey Dinkins, Liberal, 10-5, in the fifth-place match.
Concordia will compete in a tournament hosted by Republic County High School on Tuesday.
