Highland clips Thunderbirds, 8-6

Unable to overcome a 7-1 deficit, the Cloud County Community College baseball team fell 8-6 to Highland Community College Tuesday afternoon at the Concordia Sports Complex.
Cloud County (14-10) got out to a 1-0 lead in the game in the bottom of the first inning.
Paul Schuyler scored on a sacrifice fly by Gavin Roy.
The Thunderbirds would be shut out over the next four innings.
Highland (8-16), after going scoreless the first three innings, put up four runs in the top of the fourth inning.
The Scotties then extended the lead to 7-1 with three runs in the fifth.
Demitri Shakotko scored on a sacrifice fly by Kolten Howerton in the bottom of the sixth inning, and Cloud County trailed 7-2.
Highland made it an 8-2 game with a run in the top of the eighth inning.
The T-Birds mounted a comeback in the bottom of the eighth.
Roy led off the inning with a walk and Shakotko singled.
A fielder's choice ground ball by Danny Infante got Roy home.
Landon Meyer followed with a three-run home run that made it an 8-6 game.
Cloud County left two baserunners stranded in the inning.
The T-Birds, still trailing 8-6, were retired in order in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Cloud County used seven pitchers in the game.
Scott Rienguette, on in relief of starter Brayden Mackey, took the loss. He gave up four runs on four hits, struck out one and walked three in one-third of an inning.
Mason Munz, Carson Latimer, Lucas O'Keefe, Luke Schmedding and Cole Askew also pitched in relief.
Shakotko and Karson Green had two hits each for the T-Birds. Meyer drove in three runs.
