Kemling, Schroeder place first for CHS

MINNEAPOLIS — Concordia High School sophomores Sajen Kemling and Hunter Schroeder each went unbeaten to record first-place finishes in the Jeff Giles Invitational hosted by Minneapolis High School on Saturday.
Kemling won all four of his matches to place first in the 106-pound class.
Schroeder went 5-0 on his way to a first-place finish in the 160-pound class.
Concordia finished fifth as a team with 87.5 points.
Minneapolis captured the team title with 128 points.
Plainville was second with 119.5 points. Eureka was third with 95.5 and Southeast of Saline was fourth in the 15-team field with 91.5.
Concordia had Keyan Miller place second in the 152-pound class.
Jordan Anguish, 113 pounds, and Dalton Owen, 220 pound, each placed fourth for the Panthers.
Kemling, after receiving a bye in the opening round of the tournament pinned Hunter Picking, Chapman, in 49 seconds and Connor Hughes, Eureka, in 1:50. He won a narrow 7-6 decision over Logan Normandin, Plainville, and then pinned Teagan Nienke, Ellsworth, in 1:06.
Schroeder, who is now 10-0 on the season, pinned his first four opponents. He pinned Yan Keuwo, Blue Valley Southwest, in 28 seconds; Austin Harryman, Bluestem; Garrison Spoonts, Eureka, in 40 seconds; and Weston Pfeifer, Thomas More Prep-Marian, in 1:40.
In the final match of the tournament, Schroeder handed Rudy Rodriguez, Southeast of Saline, his first loss of the season, 7-6.
Miller opened with a 4-2 win over Brandon Rohr, Plainville. He pinned Sam Butler, Blue Valley Southwest, in 1:47; won a 10-0 major decision over Chase Anderson, Minneapolis.
Unbeaten Brent Escareno, Eureka, defeated Miller, 7-4.
Miller then won by injury default over Colton Crable, Chapman.
Anguish beat Markeis Spiller, Stockton, 5-4, in the opening round. He lost by technical fall to undefeated Kendall Beitz, Eureka, 15-0 and then knocked off Adam Reed, Minneapolis, 20.
Caleb Farmer, Whitewater-Remington, pinned Anguish.
Anguish then lost 7-3 to Jesse Mackey, Plainville.
Owen pinned Blake Hoss, Russell, in 1:44 in the opening round. He lost by fall to unbeaten Nick Davenport, Ell-Saline; lost by fall to Zachery Ferris, Chapman; lost by fall to Chance Korinek, Minneapolis; and then received a bye.
Cade Anderson picked up two wins in the 132-pound class for Concordia. He lost by fall to Jacob Windholz, Russell; pinned Keegan Harrington, Ell-Saline, in 1:59; lost a 6-4 decision to Charles Vath, Blue Valley Southwest; pinned Ethan Dennis, Eureka; and lost a 12-2 major decision to Chasyn Vogan, Minneapolis.
Eastan Hake went 3-2 in the 145-pound class for the Panthers. He lost by fall to Brendan Witt, Chapman; pinned Brock Zimmerman, Eureka, in 54 seconds; won by injury default over Hazen Benton, Bluestem; pinned Morgan Kelly, Ellsworth, in 1:53; and lost by fall to Brody Murk, Minneapolis.
Toby Wahlmeier 126 pounds, lost by fall to Leighton Colburn, Stockton; lost by fall to Chandler Schoenberger; lost by fall to Dayton Randall, Minneapolis; lost by fall to Wyatt Driskell, Blue Valley Southwest; and lost by fall to Tyson Hall, Ellsworth.
Nathan Brown, 138 pounds, received a bye; lost by fall to Devin Williams, Blue Valley Southwest; and lost by fall to Javier Martinez, Whitewater-Remington.
Layton Kindel, 170 pounds, received a bye; pinned Eli Hopkins, Ell-Saline; lost by technical fall, 18-3, to Jordan Finnesy, Plainville; and lost 9-7 to Mitchell Tiller, Chapman.
Robert Trost, 182 pounds, lost by fall to Draxtin Hovis, Plainville; lost by fall to Sterling Harp, Southeast of Saline; lost by fall to Tyson Villalpando, Minneapolis; pinned Gavin Tully, Ellsworth in 1:53; and lost by fall to Rylan Basart, Stockton.
The Concordia junior varsity also competed in the tournament.
Logan Leiszler placed second in the 106-pound class. He received a bye; lost by fall to Isaac Richie, Minneapolis; won a 5-1 decision over Kassidy Leiszler Concordia.
Wyatt Barleen went 2-1 to place second for Concordia in the 152-pound class. He lost by fall to Austin Bird, Ell-Saline; pinned Matthew Gottschalk, Thomas More Prep, in 23 seconds; and pinned Gannon Mosher, Chapman.
Kassidy Leiszler, lost by fall to Richie; received a bye; and lost to Logan Leiszler.
Braxton Kindel, 120 pounds, lost by fall to Brayden Wallace; pinned Jack Bumgarnder, Whitewater-Remington in 1:38; lost by fall to Jameson Richie, Minneapolis.
Kenzie Bartlett, 195 pounds, lost by fall to Terren Andrews, Minneapolis; lost by fall to Christian Soliz, Russell; lost by fall to Nick Hoffman, Bluestem.
Taskin Kindel, 220 pounds, pinned Lucas Kraus, Thomas More Prep; lost by fall to David Snyder, Minneapolis; lost by fall to Logan Sanders, Southeast of Saline.
